Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya-The Student Executive Board of the State University of Surabaya (BEM UNESA) held a forum to review the issue of 'The Last Round of the KPK in Legal and Political Aspects' on Saturday (19/06/21). The activity, which was moderated by Laskar Intifada as Agipro BEM Unesa Staff, presented two presenters, namely Dr. Zainal Arifin Mochtar, S.H., LLM. As an Expert in Constitutional Law at Gaja Mada University and Kurnia Ramadhan, S.H. as a researcher for Indonesia Corruption Watch.
On that occasion, Kurnia explained that the rejection of the examination of the KPK Law up to the forced dismissal of 75 KPK employees on the grounds that they did not pass the national insight test was a sign of the alleged motive for disbanding the KPK smoothly and slowly.
He added that problems during the formal judicial review of the law, including the Constitutional Court allowing democratic values to be lost in the legislative process, failing to explore material truths in the process of changing the KPK Law, opening up opportunities for reckless legislation in the future, and inconsistencies between decisions.
In addition, there are also some problems when viewed formally on the KPK Bill, namely authoritarianism in legislation, not being included in the 2019 National Legislation priority program, the substance is in disarray, quick discussions, and unprocedural ratification meetings.
Meanwhile, Zainal Arifin Mochtar explained that it was time to eradicate corruption and no longer rely on the KPK and the president. When the sentence was written, there were people who kept them active by making breakthroughs in performance and eradicating corruption, even though they were dealing with their own commissioners.
According to him, those who made the breakthrough were internal investigators who wanted to eradicate corruption. "Aware of this action, the KPK then issued another stance, namely by conducting a national insight test which was immediately used to dispose of these good people," he said.
He continued, the eradication of corruption, apart from requiring public support, there is also a very important factor, namely state support. Without state support, eradicating corruption will be impossible. Meanwhile, the public must also act to do something, such as increasing efforts to take notes against the state, protest against the state, and so on. This includes cooperating with state institutions that are still possible and important to use in order to improve law enforcement and anti-corruption. (aida)
