unesa.ac.ac.id . SURABAYA - The Wooder of Labor Day or May Day every May 1 is an important momentum in confirming the struggle of workers' groups to obtain rights and justice in the world of work.
"Labor Day is an expression of the welfare struggle of the workers, not merely an action against," said Agus Machfud Fauzi, Lecturer in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIPOL) The University of Surabaya (Unesa) .
The warning substance lies in the urge to fulfill the rights of workers who are considered not yet fully fulfilled today.
He emphasized, the demonstrations carried out by workers should not be interpreted negatively. Demonstration is one of the legitimate channels to convey aspirations that cannot be channeled through the mechanism of negotiations or ordinary mediation, as often done by other groups.
According to him, this disparity creates an assumption as if workers are only limited to laborers without a more humane position in the economic system.
"Labor needs to be humanized. They are not just workers, but part of a complete life system," said the Coordinator of the Study Program (Koorprodi) Sociology. Mass which according to him tends to be rash and contrary to the principle of responsible democracy.
He said that the layom storm actually confirmed the fate of workers and enlarged the unemployment rate, which eventually became a burden on the state.
As academics, lecturers with more than 5 IPR invited educational institutions to participate in assisting workers or workers as partners of social movements.
He considers that intellectual groups need to be present in the process of assistance so that the workers' struggle does not only depend on physical energy and action, but also based on strong and directed arguments. Finally, he has encouraged the need for a revision of the Employment Law and the preparation of policy mitigation that can prevent dismissal arbitrarily. This is important to ensure that the rights and future of workers are maintained in an inclusive and fair development ecosystem. []
