Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-A total of 24 participants with disabilities took a special interview test for the Surabaya State University (UNESA) independent pathway on the 4th Floor, LP3M Building, Lidah Wetan Campus, Surabaya on Thursday, July 21, 2022. The participants came from various regions. There are also from Kalimantan and Aceh.
Awang Dharmawan, S.Ikom., MA., Head of the New Student Admissions Division, UNESA Admissions Unit., said that the disability special pathway or Computer-Based UNESA Entrance Test (TMUBK) was carried out in two stages.
The first stage is a computer-based written test conducted online and the second stage is an interview test or skills test. Based on the data, there are 54 applicants for the disability pathway and there are around 24 participants who proceed to the interview test stage today.
"The participants were not only from Surabaya, but also from Balikpapan, Samarinda and Aceh," explained the lecturer in Communication Science, Faculty of Social and Legal Sciences (FISH) UNESA.
He added that the interest of friends with disabilities from various regions to study at UNESA was extraordinary. In fact, he continued, there were participants who were from Aceh, were willing to travel overland, took the bus for four days and three nights just to take part in the selection at UNESA.
“Of course, we ask for friends with disabilities to have their respective companions. In addition to ensuring the safety of participants, it is also an encouragement for participants at the selection location," he explained.
This special path, said Awang, is UNESA's commitment to providing access to higher education for all the nation's children. UNESA, he continued, is a common house for learning and self-development which later they are expected to make a positive contribution to society, nation and state.
Puji Lestari, one of the companions for disability participants expressed her appreciation for UNESA which provides special pathways for disabilities in each new student admissions route every year. Moreover, on campus one step ahead of it provides special services.
According to him, not all campuses have special and truly special paths such as the new student admission system at UNESA. There is a special volunteer who takes the participants to the selection room.
The same thing was expressed by Ida, the parent of M. Dafino, a participant with autism. “We are all the same. Both are perfect before God. Everyone also has their own advantages and disadvantages. I believe, children who are born with limitations in one area must have advantages in other fields. This needs to be further developed, one of which is through lectures here (UNESA, ed). I hope my son can pass and study here,” he said.
Nurul Maulida, a UNESA PSLD volunteer who helped direct participants at the location, said that it was not just anyone to become a disability selection volunteer. Participants must of course have the ability to interact with participants and must go through training.
“We really have to serve them wholeheartedly. There is a way or procedure itself. Volunteers are usually equipped with skills through training by the UNESA Center for Disability Studies and Services (PSLD), "explained the 2020 PLB student.
For information, this year UNESA opened several selection groups on the SPMB or independent 2022 pathway. First, the UTBK non-test group with a number of registrants reaching 5,653 people. Second, the achievement group consists of religious, leadership, sports and artistic achievements. This path is in demand by around 1,163 registrants.
