Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya-The ranks of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, State University of Surabaya received a visit from the Center for Research and Development of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on the 2nd Floor of the FMIPA Unesa Ketintang Building on Thursday (10/6/2021).
On that occasion from FMIPA, Prof. Dr. Madlazim, M.Si, Dean of FMIPA UNESA along with the ranks of vice deans, lecturers around the faculty and staff. Meanwhile, from BMKG, the Research and Development Coordinator for Geophysics, Dr. Supriyanto Rohadi, M.Si, Angga Setiyo Prayogo, M.Si as the main researcher, Tio Azhar Prakoso Setiadi, S.Tr, Mangisi Sumihar Yuliyanti, S.Si and Salsabila Monica.
The meeting was intended to follow up on the cooperation agreement (PKS) on the 'Operationalization of the Utilization of Research and Development Results in the Earthquake and Tsunami Sector' between FMIPA and BMKG previously. In addition, two parties, each presented the results of the latest research on the potential and early warning of disasters (earthquakes and tsunamis) in Indonesia.
Prof. Dr. Madlazim, M.Si on that occasion described three of the 97 results of advanced research and the latest by FMIPA in the last 10 years that have been published, received patents or HKI. Three of them are research on Tsunami Prediction Applications Using the Tsunami Faulting Model, Earthquake Warning Instruments Attached to Buildings, and the Learning Model for Earthquake or Tsunami Disaster Mitigation (ORSAEV).
The Professor of Design for Tsunami Early Detection Applications said that the meeting discussed cooperation in the field of research and development to continue to bring innovation, improve accuracy and speed in releasing earthquake and tsunami information to the public.
"After an earthquake occurs in an area, whether it has the potential for a tsunami or not, the BMKG is required to release information or early warnings as quickly and accurately as possible, so that people can get information quickly and know immediately whether to evacuate and evacuate or not," he said.
In the future, the two parties also plan to collaborate in the field of research internships and work internships for FMIPA Unesa students at BMKG. According to him, the research internship program should indeed be carried out in research centers such as the BMKG Research and Development Center and LIPI or other institutions that have a Research and Development Center. "This is very important for Unesa, because it really supports the development of student skills and competencies," he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Supriyanto Rohadi. S.Si., M.Si on that occasion explained aspects that could be carried out in collaborative research in the future, some of which include research on improving earthquake monitoring, developing earthquake early warnings, identifying seismically active zones, making detailed seismic hazard maps, as well as in ground motion prediction.
He continued, BMKG and FMIPA will do their best for the interests of both parties in producing the latest research that is beneficial to the community. "We also hope that there will be a formula or method from Unesa, then we can collaborate and support it with data from the BMKG," he said.
Then he also responded about cooperation to support MBKM research internship programs and work internships for Unesa students in the future. His party admitted that they are ready to accommodate the proposal and together with the central ranks will discuss further, including the internship curriculum design that must be prepared.
