Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya-The Student Association for Health Education and Recreation, Faculty of Sports Science (FIO) UNESA held a national webinar with the theme "Geological Disaster Management and Mitigation Strategy in the New Normal Era" on Friday (25/06/2021). The webinar presented Wiryo Nuryono, S.Pd., M.Pd. as the head of the UNESA SMCC Disaster Mitigation Division and Drs. Tarso Soegito, SH., M.Hum as the Chief Executive of the Gresik Regency BPBD as a speaker.
Head of the Department of Health and Recreation Education, Dr. Pudjijuniarto, M.Pd officially opened the event. Through his speech, he said that academics have an important role in disaster mitigation. The involvement of academics can be directly or indirectly to realize community preparedness and carry out disaster mitigation in the community.
Tarso Sagito on that occasion said that universities are one of the important elements in disaster management. In disaster management, it must be pentahelix-based or involve multi-sectors. Starting from the government, the private sector, the community, and even academia and the media.
He continued that disaster management is a series of efforts that include pre-disaster, emergency and post-disaster activities. “Three things must be a common concern. It is important to educate the public to broaden their horizons and awareness regarding the importance of disaster mitigation and education in Indonesia," he said.
Meanwhile, Wiryo Nuryono said that disaster management is the duty of all parties. Everyone must step in and contribute. He continued that so far, UNESA through SMCC has been heavily involved in disaster mitigation and has gone directly to disaster areas in Indonesia, such as in West Sulawesi and around the island of Java.
In fact, Unesa is currently running a disaster-resilient village development program that is ready and alert in dealing with disasters. The activities include disaster education training, trauma healing, emergency first aid training, mangrove planting, public kitchen training, and many other activities related to disaster mitigation.
In addition, it is also through real work lectures (KKN) which also organizes the Education and Disaster Mitigation program. "This is a tangible form of UNESA SMCC service activities to the community," he said.
He continued that UNESA's contribution, both through volunteers and KKN students, has so far only been intended to warn the burden of the disaster-stricken community and minimize damage and victims as a result of the disaster.
For information, Unesa SMCC volunteers are always ready to go to the field at disaster points. Volunteers consisting of rows of students and lecturers have been prepared carefully both in terms of knowledge and skills in education, mitigation or trauma healing and evacuation. (juris)
