Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Indonesia's musical talent is very abundant. This potential can be seen from the aspect of musical diversity and its development which is increasingly embedded in people's hearts. This potential is accommodated by UNESA through the Music Arts Study Program which was established in 2015. Since the beginning, the study program has shown its commitment to educating students who are competent in the world of music.
The students of the study program who are under the auspices of the Faculty of Language and Arts (FBS) routinely make UNESA proud in various homeland music competitions and even their names have soared to the international level.
The latest achievement, for example, is that the Music Arts student won the 2021 UNY Virtual Band National Competition. Then, Sodo Lanang, the 2019 Music Arts student, also won a silver medal in the Solo Piano Open Class Category at the 2021 International Music Competition.
Then the UNESA String Quartet won the Gold Medal Chamber Category at the 2021 International Music Competition. The list of achievements was extended again with the acquisition of KKM Gita Pramawisesa who won the Gold Medal Choir Competition at the 2021 Bali International Choir Festival.
Moh. Sarjoko, S. Sn., M.Sn., Head of the Music Arts Study Program, explained that Music Arts students are focused on becoming professionals. That is what distinguishes the general public who have a hobby of music and students who graduate from S-1 Musical Arts who can not only play musical instruments, but also understand the science of music.
As an effort to produce competent students, Music Arts provides KKM which students can participate in as a place to practice skills and collaborate with other colleagues in playing music. "Students of Music Arts must be proficient in two skills, proficient in science and proficient in playing music," said Sarjoko.
The Head of the Music Arts Study Program explained that in the first semester, students will be given theoretical courses as well as an introductory major. What is major? In the Music Arts study program, each student is required to have one musical instrument which is the major or the main focus. In the first semester, students will be introduced to various kinds of tools or instruments before focusing on one musical instrument in the next semester.
Each student is required to have one major. However, students are also obliged to understand the basics and characteristics of other musical instruments. In addition, this study program also provides minor courses as a counterweight, so that students can learn and have expertise in other musical instruments.
By mastering musical instruments, students have the ability to play musical instruments that are not commonly mastered by many people. So the opportunities are more open. "The profile of our graduates are mainly professional music players," he explained.
He added that Musical Arts graduates have wide job opportunities. They can be musicians, part of the music industry management, audio or sound engineer, song arranger, arts administration, music agent, accompaniment, broadcast sound engineer, application developer and many more. [UNESA PR]
