Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya- State University of Surabaya continues to develop a number of sustainable programs that have benefits for the community. One of them is in collaboration with the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission to hold a Focus Group Discussion on Research on the Quality Index of Television Broadcasting Programs on Monday (31/5/2021) at Hotel Bumi, Surabaya.
In this event, Unesa fielded reliable academics from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law to conduct research on various television shows as a basis for policy making and decision making.
This research, which has been carried out since 2017, is a strengthening of KPI as an independent institution that regulates matters regarding broadcasting to continue to improve broadcast programs. "We have a responsibility to ensure that the frequency is used as well as possible, lest broadcast programs contain violence, radicalism and terrorism, as well as pornography," said the Commissioner of the Central KPI, Nuning Rodiah.
In the fourth year of collaboration between Unesa and KPI, the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, State University of Surabaya, Prof. Dr. Bambang Yulianto, M.Pd gave a proposal for the establishment of a Media Smart Village. This was initiated by one of the programs from the Ministry of Education and Culture, which was to apply the concept of Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM), one of which was through the implementation of the KKN (Real Work Class) program.
“At Unesa, the KKN program is realized in various themes, so the results are more tangible because the program is more focused. I have the initiative that in the future, there will be the formation of a Media Smart Village. For example, one district is chosen by 1-2 pioneers who we will provide assistance on how to consume media intelligently, on the other hand the community can also prevent the occurrence and spread of hoaxes," said Bambang.
Furthermore, he emphasized that Unesa was ready to support this pilot project as one of the themes in the Unesa Community Service Program. This innovation was immediately welcomed by Nuning. “I feel happy because I got this extraordinary enlightenment. This idea can synergize with the KPI program because previously, KPI had a literacy program of a million viewers, indeed the focus was still on urban communities. With this proposal, this can be a strengthening of an integrative proposal," said Nuning.
He also hopes that through this digital literacy and television assistance program, people can be smart in determining the broadcast programs they watch, as well as determining healthy hours for children to watch television programs. "I have committed to working with Unesa, not only with research but also media smart villages, we also involve all television industries to join in this activity," he said. (Unesa Public Relations)
