Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Attended by around 57 student participants from master's and doctoral programs, UNESA Postgraduate held a guest lecture with Assoc. Prof. Andrzej Cirocki, visiting professor from the University of York, United Kingdom. The event which was opened by the Deputy Director for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Nining Widya Kusnanik, S.Pd., M.Appl.Sc., was held in the 9th Floor Hall of the Postgraduate Building, Lidah Wetan Campus, Surabaya on Tuesday, 28 June 2022.
On that occasion, Prof. Andrzej Cirocki, who is familiarly called Andy, discussed educational research methods that are relevant to the needs of international publications. The guest lecture continued on consulting research manuscripts, especially for students conducting research in the field of language education. Relevant students are asked to send drafts of their research manuscripts for review and input. Each student has the opportunity to have a private consultation for 30 to 40 minutes with Prof. Andy.
A series of activities, from guest lectures to consultation sessions, is managed by the Postgraduate Work Unit's Cooperation, Publication and Internationalization (KPI) Group which aims to improve students' research abilities, and is a form of accelerating national and international collaboration. In addition, the activity also aims to increase scientific publications for students and lecturers within the UNESA Postgraduate Program.
Ahmad Wachidul Kohar, S.Pd., M.Pd., from the Publication Division of the Postgraduate KPI Cluster revealed that the material presented by Prof. Andy brings new insights, not only about content knowledge related to research methodology, but also how to package it into a good and correct structure for writing scientific publications.
"Here, I learned a lot about how important a clear and measurable description is in presenting a research methodology in a scientific article," he said while hoping that such guest lectures would be held more often, such as a workshop model so that participants could understand the content more comprehensively.
To note, this guest lecture is a form of implementation of UNESA's collaboration with the University of York, UK. In this collaboration, there are several activity points initiated by the two institutions, such as the implementation of guest lectures and assistance in scientific publications for UNESA Postgraduate students and lecturers, the development of the Center for Development of English Learning Materials (NCELTMAD), professional improvement for teachers, and mentoring for lecturers in majors.
