Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-The UNESA Crisis Center Mitigation Unit (SMCC) team continued its humanitarian mission at refugee camps for victims of the Mount Semeru Eruption, yesterday (12/12/2021). Their task is still the same, doing trauma healing and providing psychoeducation to children at Pondok Anak Ceria, Ministry of Social Affairs Command Post.
The activities that were held before noon were packaged in various activities; singing together, playing snakes and ladders, dakon, arranging glasses, hand painting and various other games. "It's really nice to be able to play with my brothers and sisters, come back tomorrow, sis," said Sabrina, one of the children who took part in the activities.
Arimurti, SST, MM., as a member of the Directorate of Child Social Rehabilitation of the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs explained that the Ministry of Social Affairs carried out a response to the Mount Semeru disaster by setting up tents for the evacuation of victims, including the Pondok Anak Ceria tent. "We get used to them being comfortable in tents, then together we provide education and trauma healing," he said.
According to him, this evacuation is predicted not only for one or two weeks. However, it can take up to two months. Maybe other volunteers can only take one or two weeks, but they admit that they are ready to escort until the disaster is over and the victims can return to their respective homes.
Many volunteers have contributed in providing logistical assistance and education to the community and children. “We really appreciate this and see it as a positive thing. Hopefully all the hard work together can speed up the recovery process, conditions can quickly be safe and residents can return to their homes, "he concluded. [UNESA PR]
