Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-The high interest of Indonesian school students in Saudi Arabia to continue their studies at Indonesian universities made the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) Jeddah to intervene. The Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia cooperates with Indonesian campuses, one of which is the State University of Surabaya (UNESA). The two signed a virtual cooperation memorandum of understanding on Tuesday, May 23, 2022.
The Indonesian Consul General in Jeddah, Eko Hartono, said that the collaboration was aimed at opening up opportunities for students in Saudi Arabia to pursue higher education in Indonesia. Their priority students, namely graduates of Indonesian schools who were there.
Eko Hartono explained, there are two Indonesian schools in Saudi Arabia. First, the Jeddah Indonesian School (SIJ) with 1,035 students ranging from elementary to high school. Second, the Indonesian-Makkah School (SIM) which has around 356 students. Students from these schools are mostly children of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) and the Indonesian diaspora community (KDI) who live in Saudi Arabia.
“So far, some of them want to continue their education outside Saudi Arabia, especially returning to Indonesia. Therefore, we collaborate with several universities in Indonesia, one of which is UNESA," explained Eko Hartono.
Through this collaboration, the Indonesian Consulate General 'opens his arms wide' for UNESA to carry out various higher education tridharma programs. Can do research, practice teaching, internship and so on in Saudi Arabia.
"It is hoped that our children (Indonesian-Saudi Arabian school students, ed) can continue their education here and UNESA can improve the tridharma of higher education. We hope that this collaboration will increase in the future," he hoped.
In his speech, Unesa Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes stated that the MoU is not just a signature but there is a joint implementation action. Many routes to enter UNESA such as the hafiz route, MTQ and so on, including the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah, will also have their own special route, so it will be easier.
