Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya-Every successful person, whether it's an official or a leader, certainly has a winding life journey. Some of them come from simple families. Never fell, even every step and decision stained with sweat and even tears. That is what also became colorful in Prof.'s life journey. Nurhasan, M.Kes., who comes from an affluent family to become a professor and lead UNESA.
The story of his life was conveyed by Prof. Nurhasan, M.Kes., at the 2021 Lecturer Apprentice event entitled 'One Step Closer to Cak Hasan, UNESA Chancellor' on August 13, 2021. In front of 25 young lecturers from various campuses throughout Indonesia, the man who is familiarly called Cak Hasan told the story that he was born into a poor family. Since elementary school (SD) his parents could not pay school fees. He then moved to another elementary school.
His intention to enter one of the junior high schools in Surabaya was not smooth and he had to give up which then led him to enter one of the junior high schools in Pasuruan. After finishing junior high school, he hoped to enter high school, but registration was closed at that time. He then docked at the sports teacher's school (SGO). After graduating, he continued, he aspires to become a scholar. Due to limited funds, he then took a diploma program, D-2. "Because of the accuracy (coincidentally, ed) I got a pretty good predicate, I got scholarship assistance, then followed the transfer program to D-3 to S-1 level," he said.
Actually, when he was at the D-2 level, Cak Hasan was appointed as an official bond teacher at one of the schools, Pasuruan. It didn't go smoothly either, because he had to divide his time between teaching and lectures. He consulted with the principal to request a schedule of three days of teaching and three days of lectures. "Because it was not allowed, so I resigned and I returned the decree," he said while being lightly held captive.
It was a tough choice, but it had to be made. The hardest part is convincing his parents who were happy to hear that their son was appointed as a civil servant. "Why are civil servants released," said his parents at the time. "It's not released, sir, this was ordered by the chancellor to go to college for one more year," he assured his parents. With good intentions and for the sake of learning, according to him, there will be a way even though it must be limping towards success.
For the sake of his dream of becoming a scholar, Cak Hasan continues to convince himself to remain strong and strong in facing various challenges. That's why, when he was young, Cak Hasan was once an angkot assistant, selling drinks and snacks at the Surabaya terminal. "It turned out to be a phase that forged me so that I can be what I am today," he added.
Good opportunities always come to good people and who always believe. At that time, there was an opportunity to become a lecturer assistant at UNESA. He then tried his luck and had to compete with other candidates, including the son of the dean and Unesa official at the time. After passing the selection, he was accepted.
That's where his academic career began, moving up to what it is today and leading UNESA. He became an academic as well as a practitioner in the field of sports and always develops himself on various occasions. "Alhamdulillah, by showing performance, also with the support of family and friends, everything can go according to expectations even though sometimes it takes sweat," he added.
At the event hosted by Dr. Bachtiar S Bachri, M.Pd, the chairman of the UNESA LP3, Cak Hasan, revealed the key to his success. First, you have to be sure, always try and be sincere and have empathy for others. Second, always be honest wherever you are. The third is strong and can collaborate to bring mutual benefits and for many people. "Together, I believe everything can be passed easily," he said.
In addition to sharing experiences, Cak Hasan also encourages young lecturers to remain optimistic about becoming professional educators, able to adapt to the times and good at networking to give birth to many creations and innovations that are beneficial for institutions, society and the country. In addition to the life of the chancellor, the participants also asked a lot of questions and discussed various other things about the culture of educating and researching at UNESA.
