Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-The Chancellor of the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) was a speaker at a Sports Workshop with the theme "The Challenges of East Java KONI Preparing a New Sports Branch at PON XXI/2024 Aceh-North Sumatra" by the East Java Sports Journalists Working Group on Saturday, April 23, 2022 in the Suhartatik Room, Floor 2, KONI East Java.
Apart from Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., Wahid Wahyudi, Chair of the All-Indonesian Gateball Association (Pergatsi) in East Java, and Irmantara Subagio, Deputy Chairperson of KONI East Java. The event was attended by East Java sports journalists, leaders of 15 new sports that will be competed in PON XXI later.
Head of the East Java Youth and Sports Service (Kadispora), Pulung Chausar said that there were at least 15 new sports that would be competed in PON XXI. The sports in question are; Rafting, Hapkido, Kurash, Rugby, Triathlon, Woodball, Lion Dance, E-sports, Jujitsu, Kabbadi, Kick Boxing, Petanque, Sambo, Soft Tennis and Gateball.
Related to that, Pulung Chausar has high hopes in these 15 sports to win many medals at prestigious sporting events in the country. To get there, he continued, would require maximum preparation of all parties. "Hopefully, this new sport will be a bag of achievement for the East Java contingent at the XXI PON later. Moreover, each sport has its own achievement targets," he said.
The Head of the East Java KONI Achievement Development Head, Dudi Harjantoro said, although in terms of budget, East Java is still under DKI Jakarta and West Java. However, his party is optimistic that it can maximize the existing budget to prepare superior athletes who are ready to compete and achieve achievements in XXI PON. "We show achievements, slowly the budget problem will follow the achievements," he said.

Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes, on that occasion said that the new sport was quite challenging. Not only for East Java, other contingents also experienced. One that is quite challenging is time constraints. This means that the preparation is only about two years less.
Therefore, what needs to be done going forward is to focus on preparation and maximizing the use of the existing budget. "We will show good governance for the preparation of the XXI PON, we maximize our budget properly and have appropriate and reliable strategies to prepare athletes and coaches," said the Chairperson of the East Java FOPI Pengprov.
"For some sports, maybe we can find a solution. For example, the Petanque sport can involve outside coaches. In the beginning I don't think it's a problem. Experience with outside coaches can be adopted and combined with our strategy," he said. "With our collaboration and commitment together, Insha Allah East Java can take advantage of the opportunity to improve performance," he said again. [Unesa Public Relations]
