The big family of the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) and the Indonesian sports world, especially East Java, are grieving. Academic and practitioner in the field of sports, Dr. Edy Mintarto, M.Kes 'passed away' to God Almighty on Monday, September 20, 2021. That night, at around 19.30, the entire UNESA Family immediately held an online prayer for the deceased.
The event was attended by the entire UNESA academic community, academics and sports practitioners from various campuses as well as athletes and coaches from various regions to Papua. A total of around 500 people attended. The event was hosted by Lutfi Saksono, S.Pd., M.Pd and the prayer was led by Dr. M. Turhan Yani, M.A., Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs FISH UNESA.
UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan., M.Kes., on that occasion conveyed his deepest condolences for the loss of his best friend. He said that while knowing the deceased, there were many impressions that could not be forgotten and expressed.
As an academic, he continued, the deceased was very diligent, quite productive and cared about the development of the field of sports science. As a practitioner too. He cares about athletes. “Hopefully all of our friends (Dr. Edy Mintarto, M.Kes, ed) are accepted by Allah SWT and the families left behind are given fortitude. Amen!” he said sadly.
Prof. Dr. Wasis, M.Sc., Deputy Director of Postgraduate UNESA as well as a close friend of the deceased could not contain his sadness when delivering his close obituary. With a trembling voice, he said he felt very lost and the figure of the deceased was very kind, conscientious, and caring.
Dr. Edy Mintarto, M.Kes was born in Lamongan, December 16, 1966. He is the Director of Postgraduate UNESA and lecturer at the Faculty of Sports Science UNESA, also teaches at the UNESA Postgraduate program. While at the All-Indonesian Athletics Association (PASI) East Java, he served as the Daily Chair of the East Java PASI Pengprov from 2009-2021.
The deceased began teaching at the Faculty of Sports and Health (FPOK) of IKIP Surabaya which is now the Faculty of Sports Science (FIO) UNESA from 1994-2021. Has held the mandate as Head of the Laboratory of the Department of Sports Coaching Education (2003-2005), Secretary of the S-2 Sports Education Study Program and S-3 Sports Science (2013-2018).
He, continued Prof. Wasis, very active in sports organizations. He has been the Binpres of KONI Surabaya (2009-2013), as the KONI Development Commission (2018-present), and was the Chair of the Development and Engineering Division of BAPOMI (2010-2014) as well as the General Secretary in 2014-2018. "Then until he died, he still served as the Daily Chair of the East Java PASI Pengprov," he said.
Educational background, Edy Mintarto is a graduate of the 1994 Bachelor of Sports Coaching Education at FPOK-IKIP Surabaya (UNESA now) and received a scholarship from the Service Association Allowance (TID). Then he continued his Masters studies at Unair in the field of Sports Health Scientific studies, graduating in 2005. Then he took the UNESA Doctor of Sports Science (IKOR) program, completed in 2010.
Edy Mintarto is a caring and humble academic figure as well as a sports practitioner. He has contributed a lot to the country's children, both through his important role at UNESA and in various East Java sports organizations. His academic works also inspire and become an important part in the development of Sport Science at UNESA and the progress of the Indonesian sports world.
"Goodbye, friend," said Prof Wasis, wiping tears from his eyes. Finally, one fall grows a thousand. His gait, memories, and works are eternal for all of us and the Indonesian nation. Thank you, Mr. Director, welcome to meet the Almighty. (UNESA PR)
