In the beginning, since the 1970s, this institution was known to the public by the name Balai Bahasa LKlP Surabaya. The name lasted until the early 1990s when it was renamed the Surabaya lKlP Language Service Unit.
Along with the conversion of LKlP to University in 1999, it was better known as the Universitas Negeri Surabaya Language Service Unit (UPB Unesa). Then, in 2006 the name was changed again to the Unesa Language Center. In 2008 it was changed again to the Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of the Language Center and is valid until now.
PB Unesa is a supporting element or Technical Services Unit (UPT) which supports the implementation of education in Unesa, especially in the field of language services. Organizationally, PB Unesa is directly responsible to the Vice Rector I Unesa.
PB Unesa has the authority to organize training, education, or language courses both within the Unesa environment (for lecturers, students, and / or employees) and outside the Unesa (for the general public). In this regard, since 1999, PB Unesa has served courses in English, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Arabic, French, and Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA).
