Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA–The National Petanque Championship will begin on 15-17 July 2022 at the LP3M Field, UNESA, Lidah Wetan Campus, Surabaya. There were hundreds of participants from a number of petanque federations in the regions who were involved in the national level sports competition organized by FOPI East Java and UNESA.
The National Conference was in the framework of the 58th Anniversary of UNESA. I Nyoman Yamadi Putra, Deputy Chairperson of PB FOPI said that this time's competition carried the tagline 'One boka a million champions, one bossi a million achievements'. There are at least nine provinces involved. These include East Java, West Java, Central Java, West Nusa Tenggara, Jambi, West Kalimantan, Bali, Banten and Aceh.
"Interestingly, we have participants from Malaysia who make the adrenaline of the competition feel so tight and full of competition between teams," he said.
A total of 346 athletes of various ages were involved. Total male athletes reached 204 participants and female athletes reached 142. They fell in six competitions. For the men's shooting, 51 people participated, 35 women shooting, 91 men's singles, 56 women's singles, 97 men's doubles, and 64 women's doubles.
"Participants fight for the champion with a total of Rp. 30 million," he said.
Meanwhile, UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., said that the championship is held regularly every year. Athletes can measure and hone their abilities. From there, a coaching formula can be given for an equivalent or higher competition in the future.
"For East Java, we will directly record the achievements of the athletes, which ones are talented and need to be followed up towards the next competition, the National Championships in Banten, National Pomnas in Padang in November and a further shot to the SEA Games," he said.
The chief executive, Abdul Hafidz, S.Pd., M.Pd., explained that the competition will be monitored through the Coaching Clinic program by Zanilisa bin Muhamed, Malaysia's national petanque coach. "Athletes who take part in this competition will be recorded and then followed up through the Coaching Clinic," he said.
The main focus of the program is to find, nurture and train athletes to master petanque knowledge and skills. So that, in the future, the resulting athletes can be seeded in the same championship at the national and international levels.
“In addition, this competition is also a preparation to move to the next level in order to screen human resources for athletes who have strong potential to advance to the National Student Sports Week (Pomnas) stage and also at the upcoming SEA GAMES event. This is a kind of national benchmark,” he said.

In addition, to guess the points from the balls obtained is also a challenge as well as providing continuous curiosity, so that enthusiasm for learning the techniques is high.
