Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-For the people of Indonesia, especially those in East Java, of course, they are already familiar with the actions and involvement of the Faculty of Sports Science (FIO) UNESA in improving sports achievements in the country. Through the role of athletes and coaches, one of the leading faculties of UNESA managed to donate dozens of medals for East Java in both the XX Papua PON and the XVI Peparnas.
In the UNESA Virtual Campus Expo (UVCE) on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Dwi Cahyo Kartiko, S.Pd., M.Kes., said that FIO oversees three study programs, namely;
- S-1 Sports Coaching Education Study Program (PKO)
- S-1 Sports Science Study Program (IKOR)
- S-1 Study Program Pend. Physical, Health and Recreation (PJKR)
The man who is usually called Cahyo added that although FIO only has three study programs, it has many students or athletes who excel in the world of sports. "If you look in the mirror from the previous year, the number of registrants at FIO includes a lot of enthusiasts," he said.
Meanwhile, Dr. Irmantara Subagio as Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni FIO explained that the achievements that had been achieved by FIO UNESA students were many and varied, ranging from national achievements to international ones. Not even a few who broke records.
“In PON, the East Java contingent has been dominated by UNESA students. Around 157 athletes from a total of 500 East Java contingents came from UNESA. The performance is extraordinary. One of them became the athlete with the most medals and received a gold medal. In addition, there are athletes who participate in the SEA Games who also get gold medals," he explained.

Dr. Or. Gigih Siantoro, M. Pd. as the Head of the Department of Sports Coaching Education added that FIO has sport sciences which are supported by international standard facilities. It's all to support students to improve their abilities. UNESA of course also has lecturers who are competent in their respective fields. Some of them are involved as coaches and are active in various federations.
One of the facilities that was recently built and has been opened to the public is the Driving Range or golf practice center which is located on the north side of the UNESA field, Lidah Wetan Campus. Drivers from Jalan Mayjen Yono Suwoyo to CitraLand can see it on the left side of the road after the UNESA Hotel. "Mr. Chancellor understands UNESA's momentum and opportunity towards PTN-BH, so this golf driving is built, both for the community and the public," explained Cahyo. [UNESA PR]
