Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Indonesia proclaimed itself as the center of international Muslim fashion in 2025. This preparation needs to be matured, including by involving talented young designers in creating various Muslim fashion trends. To get there, the East Java Department of Culture and Tourism (Disbudpar) held a Youth Moslem Fashion Style which was held at Taman Krida Malang on Saturday (5/3/2022).
UNESA's Undergraduate Fashion Design Study Program contributed by launching the Fashionesa Brand. On that occasion, the UNESA designer team displayed Muslim clothing that could be used universally or modest wear. UNESA designers with their newest fashion brand, carry the theme "Tali Jiwo" which describes their identity in treading life with Javanese nuances and culture.
The Muslim clothing combines modern elements typical of young people in harmony with traditional elements so that it is still comfortable to use and looks stylish to target the youth target market. This design was prepared by three Unesa students, namely, Bilqissima Az Zahra, Fauzan Alfitrah and Argi Dwi Kuncoro.
The idea of Fashionesa was initiated by the Head of the S-1 Fashion Design Study Program, Dr. Luthfiyah Hidayati, M.Pd and was warmly welcomed by fellow lecturers in the department, including Inty Nahari, S.Pd., M.Ds, and Deny Arifana, S.Pd., M.A. "Now, students will have a portfolio and can actively participate in the development of the Fashionesa Brand," said Luthfiyah at the event location.
Inty Nahari, a member of the FASHIONESA initiating team, said that, in the future, the Fashionesa Brand will be used for all fashion works, from clothing to accessories created by the UNESA Fashion Design Study Program. This brand, he continued, was born in the momentum of the Youth Moslem Fashion Style 2022 event to accommodate the works of undergraduate students of Fashion Design Education.
"So, in the future, every work under the auspices of the S-1 Fashion Design study program will be labeled FASHIONESA. So far, the final project only carries the theme, with the birth of Fashionesa, now all student works will have that label,” he explained.
Involved in the title of the work, the preparation of the UNESA team was quite short. Students must divide the time to focus on doing lecture assignments and still pay attention to the project. “Because the team is mostly student friends, we learn to make time, to do college assignments and focus on this project. But in the end it paid off, our works were born,” said Argi Dwi Kuncoro, one of the designers of FASHIONESA. [UNESA PR]
