The event was held through ZOOM online conference and attended by 250 participants. This activity is a part of the implementation of the 56th Anniversary of the State University of Surabaya.
This national webinar aims to discuss in depth paradigm shift in education in the 21st century and post-pandemic education that is currently being experienced. Furthermore, it discusses in depth various problems and actual issues of art and design education both at the scientific and practical level and formulate comprehensive recommendations for reorienting the direction of art education policy towards the future in the era of freedom of learning and independent campus.
Three speakers were presented in this national webinar, including Prof. Dr. Mohammad Nuh, DEA. from the Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology Surabaya, Dr. Hadjar Pamadhi, MA.Hons. from Yogyakarta State University (UNY) and Tri Cahyo Kusumandyoko, S.Sn., M.Ds. from Surabaya State University (UNESA).
Dr. Martadi, M.Sn. as the head of the event organizer said, organizing this national webinar was motivated by 4 things. The first is that world changes triggered by technological advances require all elements of society to respond and adapt quickly. Second, in the future, the world economy will be driven by the creative industry sector. Therefore, the prospect of art and design will make huge contribution to the world economy, especially Indonesia.
Then the third and fourth are regarding the policy of freedom of learning and independent campus which will become a new paradigm in the world of education. Students are increasingly given the space to choose what they want to learn, how to study and how they are involved in the process of acquiring knowledge. This certainly requires a fundamental change from the education system, not a partial but comprehensive change, involving stake holders and the subject of education.
Dr. Trisakti, M.Si, as Dean of the Faculty of Language and Arts, Unesa, in his speech, gave his appreciation to the Department of Fine Arts and Design for organizing webinars that are held consistently every year. Trisakti hopes that this webinar can add and open new insights about the implementation of the freedom of learning policy curriculum son independent campuses.
Unesa Rector, Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes (usually called as Cak Hasan) in his opening remarks said that education is an important thing, if we do not carry out reconstruction or changes, 30 years later education will be a problem for all, including the nation's problems.
Cak Hasan also explained the challenges of education in this century. There are at least 3 educational challenges in this century. The first is globalization, the second is the alignment with the students which has been initiated by the Minister of Education with freedom of learning policy and independent campus. The third is related to the development of technology, information and communication in all aspects of life.
"Therefore, we must adapt and be able to become winners in facing these challenges," explained Cak Hasan. (Mufti)
