Unesa. ac.id., SURABAYA—The first day of the UTBK-SNBT test at Surabaya State University (UNESA) was attended by more than a thousand or to be precise 1,980 participants on Tuesday, April 30 2024. They came from various regions, Aceh to Papua, bringing their own motivations and stories. each.
One of the participants from the furthest area, Imelda Sumengkang told of her struggles and journey from her area, Siau Islands Regency Tagulandang Biaro or Sitaro Regency, North Sulawesi to Surabaya to take part in UTBK at UNESA.
From Sitaro, the expansion area of the Sangihe Islands Regency in 2007, Imelda set off alone by boat to the port of Sitaro. This is the only access that can be reached from his house.
From the local port, he traveled one day and one night using sea transportation to Manado. From the city of Nyiur Melambai, he then continued his journey to Surabaya using air transportation.
"So it took several days on the journey. Because my area is an archipelago, if you want to go out you have to use a boat. That's what "It takes a long time. From Manado to Surabaya you also have to transit in Makassar," he explained after taking the test session 1 at UNESA Campus 1 Ketintang.
Even though he had to travel a long way, Imelda was still enthusiastic about taking UTBK at UNESA. He came with big hopes and dreams to make his parents and extended family proud. For him, college is one way to raise the status of his parents and achieve a better future.
"My biggest motivation comes from my parents who work as fishermen. I want to make them happy. Moreover, I I'm the only child who can go to college. I want to prove that," he said.
Imelda said that at first she didn't have the confidence to take the opportunity to go to college, because she chose a gap year for two years and worked as a worker in a food industry. However, because of his determination and big dreams, he finally had the courage to register for UTBK.
During the two intervening years, outside of working hours, he always used his time to prepare for the PTN entrance test. The test he underwent went smoothly and optimally. He left the results to God.
Imelda explained the reasons for choosing the UTBK test at UNESA. One, because UNESA has been one of his dream campuses for a long time. Because of this, UNESA became one of the target campuses on the UTBK-SNBT route by choosing the Bachelor of Laws study program.
"The first choice, I focused on the Bachelor of Laws at UNESA, because it was my dream since I was little to become a lawyer. My choice received support from my family and hopefully the test I took could lead me to become part of UNESA's big family Aamiin," he said enthusiastically.[]
