Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA–Sodo Lanang, a student of the S-1 Music Arts Study Program, Faculty of Language and Arts, UNESA recently made an achievement in an international music competition. He won the Silver Prize after presenting Frederic Chopin-Fantaisie Impromptu (op.66 in C# minor) in the 2021 Malaysian Piano Competition.
The annual competition is held by the Euroasia Association of Performing Arts based on a live performance which will take place from April 1, 2021 to July 31, 2021. The results were announced on September 15.
The young man who was born in Banyuwangi, July 3, 2001, said that getting to that stage was not smooth. During the preparation period, he encountered several problems during the online training sessions. "Because the coaching is online, it's difficult to get a feeback to fix parts that are not perfect," he added.
However, due to his persistence he continues to enjoy the training process and improve his performance. With the support of Raden Roro Maha Kalyana Mitta Anggoro, S.Pd., M.Pd. as a supervising lecturer, in the end, his efforts bore fruit and succeeded in making achievements.
During the competition, Sodo Lanang's toughest competitors were participants from Malaysia and Singapore. That is of course reasonable, because participants from the two countries have won many awards in the same competition before. However, thanks to perseverance and faith and passion, he managed to get the Silver Prize in the category of participants 18 years and over.
According to him, the key to being able to compete in the competition lies in preparation. If the exercise has been done to the maximum, of course the results can also be satisfactory. Preparation will take at least a year. The results will not betray the training process.
In addition, it also requires perseverance in practice. Then the most important thing is belief. "Hopefully this makes me more motivated in improving my competence in this field and can also be an inspiration or motivation for other participants or students in making achievements in national and international competitions," he hoped.
