Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-The 2021 UNESA Triathlon Championship was a success. Sunday, December 6, 2021, was the last day for the national competition to be held. There are six categories contested, including Elite Sprint Triathlon, Age Group Sprint Triathlon, Mix Relay, Youth, Elite Duathlon and Elite Aquathlon.
In the Elite Sprint Triathlon and Age Group Sprint Triathlon categories, participants had to swim 750 m, then cycle 20 km, and run 5 km. For the Mix Relay and Youth categories, participants had to swim 300 m, then cycle for 7 km, and then run for 2 km.
In the Elite Dualthlon category, it starts with running for 5 km, then cycling for 20 km, and continues with running again for 2.5 km. And for the last category, the Elite Aquathlon, it begins with a 1 km swim followed by a 5 km run.
The Elite Sprint Triathlon Men category was attended by 14 participants and 11 participants for women. For the Age Group Sprint Triathlon Men category, 12 participants and three women participated. The Mix Relay category was participated by 6 teams, each team consisting of four people. The Youth Men category was attended by six participants and four participants for women.
The Elite Dualthlon Men category was attended by 27 participants and five women participants. The Elite Aquathon Men category consisted of 10 participants and 10 women participants. As the UNESA PR team observed in the field, the euphoria of the three-day competition was felt by the presence of the supporters of each athlete who cheered for their support. The competition was competitive and produced several champions. In the Elite Sprint Triathlon category, the first winner was Ronald Bintang Setiawan in the Men's class and Zahra Bulan Aprillia Putri for women. In the Age Group Sprint Triathlon category, Yusri and Azra Des Mofila won the first place for women. In the Mix Relay category, the first place winner was Jauhari Johan in the Men's class and Inge Praseyo for the women's class.
In the Youth category, Muh Armyn won first place in the men's class and Ananda Rintania in the women's class. For the Elite Duathlon category, the first winner was Ronald Bintang Setiawan for men and Zahra Bulan Aprillia Putri for women. Then, for the Aquathlon category, the first winner was Rashif Amila Yaqin in the men's class and Inge Prasetyo in the women's class.
Ronald Bintang Setiawan, an athlete from East Java, who won first place in two categories at once. He stated that his success stemmed from a period of maximum preparation. He trains for 2-3 in a day. Initially he was a running and swimming athlete, but in 2018 he tried to take part in triathlon competitions because from a young age he also liked to join his father on cycling. “There is no other key, besides practicing, especially swimming. Then don't be afraid to try various opportunities,” said the man from Probolinggo.
After the match, Zahra Bulan Aprillia Putri from West Java said that initially she took part in the competition because of an invitation from her coach and some of her athlete friends. His preparation before competing was only five months, and even then the time had to be divided with other preparatory exercises.
Zahra Bulan Aprillia is indeed one of the leading athletes in West Java. He won gold at PON XX Papua in the same sport and managed to bring his contingent the overall champion in the Triathlon sport. “I once got gold and it became a big motivation for me personally to improve my achievements in the future. Whatever happens, I don't want to give up. Because, something that is done with extra effort does not play with the results," he explained enthusiastically.
The UNESA Triathlon 2021, originally scheduled for June 2021. Due to the case of the second wave of the pandemic, the competition was only held in December 2021. Mokh Salis, a UNESA PKO student who is the Head of the UNESA Triathlon Committee Volunteer stated that the competition was not playing games. Because, as a venue for selecting talented athletes to prepare for several sports events at the Asian level in 2022-2023; SEA Games, Asian Games, Asian Beach Games and World Beach Games.
