Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Rizka Yolanda Putri Hariyanti, Student of Mathematics Education Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) State University of Surabaya (UNESA) often wins in various poster design competitions. Recently, he won second place in the National Poster Competition of UIN Tulungagung KPI.
Behind her achievements, Rizka has been interested in design since she was in the 11th grade of high school. At that time, he took part in a poster competition for the selection of FL2SN at the district level and managed to get 2nd place and was finally sent to the provincial level.
“At that time I was appointed by an arts and culture teacher to take part in the FL2SN selection poster competition at the Gresik district level. When the selection winner was announced, it turned out that I was the 2nd winner at the district level, after that I took part in the FL2SN selection at the provincial level, but I haven't won yet, that's where I first became interested in participating in the poster competition," he said.
His passion for participating in poster competitions has continued and is getting more and more honed at the tertiary level, this is evidenced by the various achievements he has made while a UNESA student, even though he is currently only in his second semester.
The girl from Menganti explained that the reason that underlies her participating in various competitions, apart from being a hobby, is also wanting to increase knowledge and develop design skills. “Winning or not, for me is not really a priority, the most important thing is what I get and what lessons in each race. Because, winning or not winning, I will still participate in the competition,” he said.
Furthermore, this second child of three siblings often displays the side of local culture in every design. This can be seen in the competition he won, the theme of which was 'Preserving Local Culture in the Media'.
In addition, he also designed a poster with the theme 'Flame the Spirit of Heroism in the New Normal Era' which later brought him to third place in the IMAGE National Poster Competition last December.
His love for poster design, not only makes him a winner, but also earns money. Yes, Rizka has her own business that was started since high school. He applies his skills in poster design to promote his business in various media. “Actually, opening a business was due to the pandemic and trial and error, it turned out to be well received by customers. For promotion I do it myself and design it myself. Thank God it's on and now it's available on GoFood or Grab Food services," he explained.
Rizka said that there is no other way to achieve achievements in the field of poster design other than continuing to learn and train yourself consistently. In addition, continue to try and develop themselves through various competitions. If you can, he said, don't think about winning. Because, it can have an impact on the decline in motivation and can be prone to despair. "If the focus is on winning, then we haven't been able to win, after a long time we can despair. Let's go back, the focus is on learning, it's more sustainable, the champions will come on their own," he said.
In addition, in design, it is necessary to look for interesting ideas or ideas, preferably departing from the reality or problems of everyday life. "Every work, whether it's writing or design, I always ask what I really want to convey to readers or audiences who see my posters, what messages are important to them," he said. "Most importantly, always be optimistic in your work, good work is one that brings benefits to all of us," he said again. [UNESA PR]
