Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA–The State University of Surabaya (UNESA) awarded its athletes who competed and took home medals at the XX Papua PON 2021 in a welcoming ceremony held at the 11th Floor Auditorium of the UNESA Rectorate Building, Lidah Wetan Campus on Tuesday, November 02, 2021.
UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., stated that the award was given to all UNESA athletes who went to Papua in the form of UKT exemption. Then for medal-winning athletes, apart from exemption from UKT until the end of the study period, special waivers are also given for the final project so that they can focus on training and continue to practice.
In addition, for medal-winning athletes, especially gold medalists who want to continue their studies at the master's level, scholarships for masters to doctoral degrees are also prepared at UNESA. "Later on, our athletes who win gold or medals who want to have a master's or doctoral degree, of course we will direct them to become lecturers at UNESA," he said.
Based on the decree, there were at least 70 athletes who received the award. They participated in various competitions and sports. Cak Hasan (as the rector is called) explained that the award was a form of UNESA's appreciation for the achievements and achievements of the athletes who made UNESA and East Java proud at the national sports week.
The achievements of the athletes were beyond expectations and the results were extraordinary. A total of 62 medals were brought by UNESA athletes for the East Java contingent. The details, 16 gold, 22 silver and 24 bronze medals. This achievement recorded UNESA athletes as the largest medal contributors for East Java.
It didn't stop there, several UNESA athletes also managed to break the PON record in swimming. The athlete is Adinda Larasati Dewi who was named the fastest female athlete in the 100 meter butterfly swimming event. In addition to breaking the record, swimming, he himself also managed to win as many as 9 medals, 8 gold and 1 silver in swimming. This achievement made Adinda Larasati Dewi the most accomplished athlete of PON XX Papuan.
"Thank you for everyone's support, this achievement is due to the support of all parties," said Adinda Larasati Dewi at the welcoming ceremony. According to him, these awards and appreciations can motivate athletes to be more active and improve performance in training. "Once again, thank you and Alhamdulillah, I hope that UNESA athletes will excel and UNESA will continue to produce proud athletes both on the national and international levels," he said.
Meanwhile, Dea Salsabila Putri, one of the athletes who won gold in the 3000 meter swimming sport expressed her pride for getting a great appreciation from UNESA.
