In addition, it can also provide a comfortable learning atmosphere. Well, that's what the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) has realized through its various programs so far, one of which is the eco campus.
UNESA has a green area or campus forest which is now named the Independent Learning Laboratory. The green area is a vehicle for recreation, education and conservation. Inside there are several fish ponds, there is a jogging track surrounded by various kinds of trees, plants and flowers. In addition there are also various types of animals ranging from green peacocks, rabbits to pigeons. Beyond that there is much more.
The latest and sustainable green campus infrastructure was presented online by the UNESA leadership with the team to two UI Greenmetric assessors on Thursday, April 14, 2022. The two assessors in question are Prof. Dr. Ir. Djoko M. Hartono, S.E., M.Eng. and Junaidi, S.S., M.A. The presentation was in order to rank as a campus that is committed to greening and environmental sustainability, UI GreenMetrich.
UI GreenMetrich is based on three pillars, namely the environment, economy and social, with a weighted assessment indicator consisting of campus conditions and infrastructure (15%), energy and climate change (21%), waste management (18%), water use (10% ), transportation (18%), and education and research (18%).
Related to that, more than 80% of UNESA uses LED lights in the campus area. Then the waste is used as compost, hydroponic area, and recycle plastic. The 'One Step Ahead Campus' has a waste management program in each study program, especially the fashion study program which processes plastic waste into salable goods.

UNESA has ecoplast sinks and toilets with a total of around 76.34% ecoplast sinks and 21.71% ecoplast toilets. Almost all toilets and sinks used on campus use ecoplast which supports the development of a sustainable green environment. On the transportation criteria, the total number cycle used is around 0.185, then the total large range for parking is around 981,000 m2.
UNESA also provides campus buses and school buses. Not only campus buses and school buses, Unesa also provides special roads for pedestrians or pedestrians so that they can be safer on foot. In the sixth criterion, namely on education and research, from year to year UNESA seeks to improve.
The resulting output is cooperation with various parties. "To overcome the pandemic we are holding free vaccines ranging from vaccines 1,2 to 3, conducting social activity programs, collaborating with robotics to help medical facilities in hospitals, and distributing disinfectants in 2021," explained UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes.
