Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—Surabaya State University (UNESA) is a partner of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia (KJRI) in Jeddah to develop an urban curriculum model for Indonesian Schools in Jeddah or SIJ.
Regarding this collaboration, the leadership of the 'House of Champions' campus discussed with the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah at the beginning of March 2024. "There are many collaborations that we discussed, one of which is related to curriculum development for the Jeddah Indonesian School," said UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes.
The Chancellor, who is familiarly called Cak Hasan, added that, as a form of commitment to this collaboration, UNESA will send a team of experts to design a curriculum at SIJ that is more suited to current and future needs.
Curriculum development is important, considering the development of advances in information technology and the dynamics of the school environment where students are very diverse from various countries. Various current and future challenges, both internal and external, are sought to be answered through curriculum development.
"The principle in designing or developing a curriculum is not only to answer current school challenges, but also to answer challenges and project "how will students navigate the future," he said.
Apart from that, UNESA will also send a number of students to do internships at the Indonesian Consulate General. It does not only involve education study program students, but also non-education students.
Education study program students can later become accompanying teachers or teach there according to the field of science they are studying. Meanwhile, non-education study program students can undertake internships at the Indonesian Consulate General's office, in the fields of administration, management, writing, public relations, and information technology.
Students who intern there will be selected by each faculty and will be given two choices by UNESA, namely the first option will be fully funded by the campus and the second is subsidized, so there are certain things that are not funded by the campus.
The internship is planned to start in August 2024. Considering the high level of interest in this program, it does not rule out the possibility of opening a third or independent path. Moreover, one of the benefits of students interning there is that they can perform Umrah for free.
The students will also be accompanied by lecturers who will not only monitor their activities, but also carry out international PKM such as designing urban curricula. In this way UNESA human resources can be fully involved in this collaboration.[]
