Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya-There are many ways that can be done to develop student careers, one of which can be by holding a career development webinar such as the Unesa Career Center (UCC) on Saturday (3/7/2021). The event was themed "Career Strategy in the Era of the Pandemic" which was attended by around 200 active students and alumni.
The activity, which was broadcast live on the Unesa Career Center Youtube channel, was opened by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Agus Hariyanto, M.Kes and accompanied by the General Chairperson of the Unesa Career Center, Salamun Rohman Nudin, S.Kom., M.Kom. The speakers presented were Baso Alim Bahri, S.Psi., M.Adm. SDA, General Manager of Human Capital & GA Chaeron Pokphand Eastern Indonesia and Rini Sugiyanto, S.Psi, Human Capital Development Analyst Astra Infra Toll Road Jombang-Mojokerto.
Agus Hariyanto appreciates this activity because it can increase the knowledge of students and alumni in designing the future. In addition, there is also assistance for students who graduate to continue to work and be accepted in the world of work despite the pandemic era. “We have prepared the process starting from character education, training, workshops, entrepreneurial student programs, and job fairs. We've tried our best. Now, fellow students and alumni also need self-branding," he said.
Baso Alim Bahri said that entering the industrial era 4.0, students must be more adaptive and flexible in taking advantage of job opportunities. Not only focusing on one area of expertise, but also being able to learn across scientific fields through the use of platforms and tutorials available on the internet. He gave an example, psychology students can easily learn business management or journalism. "This desire to learn new things is interesting," he said.
The alumnus of Psychology at Padjadjaran University added that the important points that a fresh graduate needs to have are a good attitude, self-branding skills, and networking. "We must be able to know ourselves well, what our weaknesses and strengths are, because this is an attraction," he said.
Similarly, Rini Sugiyanto, S.Psi, said that one of the most important ways of self-branding is through the Cirriculum Vitae (CV) when applying for a job. This Unesa Psychology alumnus also provides tips when compiling a CV, starting from the content, to the selection process. In order to provide a good understanding for the participants, he also opened a session to review the CVs of several selected participants.
In the final session of the webinar, prizes were distributed for participants who actively asked questions in the form of backpacks and smartphones for Unesa student alumni who had filled out tracer studies. As stated by Salamun Rohman Nudin, Chairman of UCC, the awarding of the prize is an effort to motivate Unesa alumni to take part in developing their potential and careers in the pandemic era. (meds)
