Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-UNESA dispatched Mitigation Unit and Crisis Center (SMCC) volunteers to Sempu Village, Ngancar District, Kediri on Monday, October 25, 2021 at the Lobby of the UNESA Rectorate, Lidah Wetan Campus. The volunteers consisting of 25 students from the Psychology and Counseling Guidance study program will hold a disaster mitigation training in the village for two days, 26-27 October 2021.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni Dr. Agus Harianto, M.Kes. According to him, disaster mitigation training activities are part of a form of community service. Disaster mitigation training needs to be carried out in stages, considering that areas in Indonesia are prone to disasters ranging from landslides, floods to earthquakes.
"Hopefully a disaster does not happen, but we need to anticipate and prepare a team of experts who are ready to intervene when a disaster occurs," he said. "The activity is an opportunity to do service, because this is a momentum to be able to share goodness with the community," he concluded.
Symbolically, this release event was complemented by the wearing of SMCC vests to two volunteer representatives by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni and the Head of SMCC UNESA, Dr. Diana Rahmasari, S. Psi., M.Sc. During two days at the location, students will carry out a number of activities, such as psychoeducation to the community, disaster-safe schools, capacity building for disaster-responsive villages and planting teak and durian trees to prevent erosion and improve water sources.
After the activity, students who take part in the activity will make reports and produce modules and share their journey with other students in the Psychology and Counseling Department who are unable to participate in this activity. "This is our way of doing community service, so even though the conditions are safe, we still try to provide training and teaching on disaster mitigation to minimize the impact of disasters," said Diana Rahmasari.
