Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA—The Indonesian contingent succeeded in bagging 14 medals at the 2024 Paris Paralympics or Paralympics which took place from 28 August to 08 September 2024. These medals were donated by students from the Faculty of Sports and Health Sciences (FIKK), Surabaya State University (UNESA).
The Chancellor of UNESA, Nurhasan, said that for the 2924 Summer Paralympics, Indonesia sent 35 athletes. Two of them are athletes from UNESA consisting of Leani Ratri Oktila, a PhD student in Physical Education and Tony Ricardo, a Masters student in Sports Education.
Of the two students, Leani Ratri Oktila, who took part in Mixed Doubles SL3-SU5, or mixed doubles badminton with Hikmat Ramdani, managed to win the only gold medal and one silver medal for Indonesia.
"Leani Ratri Oktila is going to work at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, but will continue studying based on a scholarship given by UNESA for her achievements so far for Indonesia," said the chancellor who is familiarly called Cak Hasan, who was present to witness the student's match directly at Paris.
According to Cak Hasan, Indonesia's performance in this year's Paralympics was very impressive and impressive, so that it was able to break the record for winning the most medals in the history of Indonesia's participation in the Paralympics. Apart from that, the badminton final brought together the 'All Indonesian Final'.

Dean FIKK Dwi Cahyo Kartiko, also appreciated the brilliant performance shown by Indonesian athletes, including that shown by FIKK UNESA student, Tony Ricardo in the judo sport. Even though these students have not succeeded in presenting a medal for Indonesia, their efforts should be appreciated.
"Tony has not yet managed to win a medal, but his struggle to reach the bronze medal round was extraordinary. Moreover, this was his first match at the Paralympics," said the Dean of FIKK.
To its students who are fighting for red and white at the Paralympics, UNESA, said Cahyo, will give appreciation in the form of scholarships and opportunities to become lecturers or instructors at FIKK, including Tony.
"There is an opportunity to become an athlete. For example, if they want to continue their career as a lecturer at UNESA, we will give them the opportunity. That's good, Paralympic athletes teaching sports to students is cool. They have a lot of valuable experience which is certainly meaningful for our young generation," he said.
For your information, Indonesia is ranked 50th in the world after winning a total of 14 medals. The details are 1 gold, 8 silver and 5 bronze. The performance of the Indonesian contingent in this prestigious competition was considered very impressive, resulting in a proud record.
After the awarding, Leani Ratri Oktila expressed her gratitude to the Chancellor of UNESA and his staff for their support and motivation so far so that she and her team in the Indonesian contingent succeeded in providing the best for the country.
