Pandemic and the impact of the earthquake has not recovered, now flash floods occurred in a number of areas, one of which hit the settlements of residents of Bandar Kedungmulyo Jombang Regency, East Java caused by the break of the embankment on Thursday (4/2/2021). Floods overflowed into people's homes with water levels reaching 1 meter which forced hundreds of residents to evacuate. The first flood has not receded, the second wave of floods followed and again hit the settlements on Monday (15/2/2021).
Hearing the news of the disaster, volunteers from Pramuka Unesa immediately moved quickly to coordinate and collaborate with other volunteers and related institutions to raise funds for donations. "After hearing the news (disaster, red), friends assisted BPBD Nganjuk to raise donations (fundraising assistance
for flood victims, red)," said Citra, a volunteer of Pramuka Unesa. In addition to the fundraiser, Unesa Scout Volunteers also jumped directly to the location on February 10, 2021. They did not leave on their own, but also collaborated with the Surabaya Health Polytechnic, BPBD Nganjuk, and several scout members in Jombang. The volunteers arrived at their destination on February 11, 2021. With a strong determination to carry out humanitarian duties, the team of Scout Unesa volunteers immediately intervened. They helped evacuate the victims and participated in cleaning the houses of the residents. In addition, it also sprays disinfectant liquid in anticipation of citizens from exposure to Covid-19. To make it easier for residents to meet their basic needs, the volunteers provide
donations to citizens in the form of food packages obtained from donors.
Then they also provide two special posts. Each serves as a kitchen and emergency post. The kitchen is used to prepare the food of residents and other volunteers. Meanwhile, emergency posts are used for volunteers who jump in during emergencies. "Later other volunteers do not need to build a new post, because it has been provided," said Public Relations Pramuka Unesa. "We always keep the night in turn, to make sure nothing happens with the residents and can quickly help, if there are urgent things," he continued.
In addition, in order to keep the victims healthy and fit, the volunteer team also invites flood victims to exercise together periodically. Before entering the location, Unesa Scout team has been equipped with knowledge and experience about post-disaster handling. That they get and learn in every scouting activity. Like, about meditation, psychoeducation and disaster evacuation.
"In addition to humanitarian action for the victims of the disaster. This year, we created a special work program related to social service to the community. Like a project in an area, camping as well as social service for the local community" added Citra. "Our intention is nothing but to serve and give the best for the homeland," he concluded.
