Unesa.ac.id,Surabaya - The Unesa School Laboratory Management Agency (BPLS) held journalistic training for teachers and public relations teams of Unesa laboratory schools to strengthen school branding on Wednesday and Thursday, March 16-17 2022 in the BPLS meeting room on the 10th floor of the rectorate building. The activity, which carries the theme Media as One of the Promotional and Branding Tools for the Unesa Laboratory School, was attended by around 27 participants from teacher representatives and the Unesa laboratory school public relations team for elementary, junior high and high school levels.
The journalistic training activities focused on the basic techniques of website-based news writing and the basic techniques of news writing based on social media Instagram, You Tube and Tik Tok as a medium for promoting and branding schools. The training, which presents competent facilitators in their fields, is expected to be a vehicle to improve the competence of the public relations team of Unesa laboratory schools.
Director of the Unesa Labschool, Prof. Dr. Roesminingsih, M.Pd said that Unesa's laboratory schools face difficult challenges in the digital era. Various changes, both related to zoning, recruitment of first aid teachers and visualization of promotions for private schools, are very influential factors and demand an increase in the competence of Unesa's laboratory schools so that they can compete with other schools. "Writing good news is certainly very important for teachers and the PR team at the labschool to know, especially now that we have entered the digital era," he said.
Furthermore, Roesminingsih said that the digital era and the industrial revolution 4.0 required all parties to really be able to optimize and take advantage of the role of social media. Therefore, understanding various news and news writing techniques based on websites and social media is very necessary to improve the competence of the Unesa laboratory school public relations team. "Hopefully, by strengthening the writing, we can brand Unesa's labschool so that it is better known to the wider community and also in accordance with Unesa's motto, one step ahead," he added.
Meanwhile, Widya Nusantara, S.Pd, M.Pd. The chief executive of the activity explained that the two-day journalistic training, in addition to providing basic techniques of writing news on websites and social media, participants were also invited to directly practice writing news and uploading it on social media. This is intended to train participants in finding the point of view of writing news about their school and being able to upload it on the school website and other social media such as Instagram, Facebook and Twitter of the school.
"The plan and follow-up for this training is that schools are expected to be able to continuously update information related to school developments both in terms of Teaching and Learning Activities (KBM), school angles, leadership profiles, and other interesting things," he said.
