Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-There are many ways that can be done to support the National Sports Grand Design recently launched by the government. One of them can be by optimizing the Physical Education, Sports, and Health (PJOK) teachers as carried out by the Faculty of Sports Science, State University of Surabaya (FIO UNESA) with the Indonesian Petanque Sports Federation (FOPI) Surabaya City.
This activity is one form of the Tridarma of Higher Education, namely community service. The community service program (PKM) was entitled 'Optimization of Surabaya City Elementary School PJOK Teachers through Modification of Petanque Games'.
The participants involved were 20 primary school teachers at the elementary school level in the city of Surabaya. The activity was centered at SDN Tambak Wedi, Surabaya. SDN Tambak Wedi was chosen because it will later serve as a Pilot Project for fostering the Petanque sport at the elementary school level in the city of Surabaya.
The person in charge of PKM activities Abdul Hafidz, M.Pd who is also a FIO UNESA lecturer said that the activity was carried out for two days, namely 11-12 September 2021. The 'supply' given to PJOK teachers included theory and practice which included, (1) Petanque basic techniques, (2) shooting training, (3) pointing training.
In addition, (4) Petanque training methodology, (5) match rules, (6) Petanque sports psychology, and (7) Petanque sports physical training. "The material we convey leads to things that are fundamental to management, training that teachers can develop for students in schools," he said.
The man who is also the daily chairman of the Surabaya City FOPI added that the purpose of the activity was to equip PJOK teachers about the Petanque sport, both in terms of theory and practice.
From these teachers, it is hoped that sports talents, especially the Petanque sport, will be born from the students of schools in Surabaya. "We believe that these talents can be born from professional teachers and that is what we strive for together," said the man who is also Deputy Director II of the UNESA Vocational Program.
Head of FOPI Surabaya City Dwi Aprijanto, S.Pd., MM., said Petanque is a new sport and in Indonesia, the federation was formed in 2011. Compared to other sports, the sport is relatively more affordable, does not require a large area, can performed by all ages, and does not require physical conditions like other sports.
"Appreciation for UNESA has helped socialize and equip PJOK teachers about Petanque," said the man who is also the principal at SDN Tambak Wedi 508, Surabayat.
Daily Chairperson of the East Java FOPI Pengprov Dr. Nurkholis, M.Pd hopes that this activity will be a way to discover the talents of Petanque athletes from the elementary level students. Therefore, he said, these activities need to be sustainable and must be followed up in the form of assistance. Also, there must be a set target so that in the future the city of Surabaya can produce athletes who can make East Java proud at the national level and Indonesia at the world level.
