Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya – Unesa, for the very first time, initiated the implementation of the PB Pickleball National Conference in a series of events on its 56th anniversary, (23/11). The Online National Conference has two agendas, declaring the Pickleball organization which is attended by approximately 34 representatives of each province in Indonesia and electing a general chairman which is assisted by the chairman of the trial, Budi Valianto, a representative of Pickleball from North Sumatra.
Referring to the 2nd agenda, Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes. was officially elected as the General Chairman of the Indonesian Pickleball Association (IPA) with a service period of 2020-2024. The election of Prof. Nurhasan is a history that needs to be recorded in the world of national sports since Indonesia is the 5th country to recognize Pickleball after since it was developed in Asia in 2018. And the IPA was officially formed after the National Conference that was held in Unesa, along with the 56th anniversary of Unesa. "I am grateful to have been entrusted with being the Chairman of the IPA. Let's join hands together to develop Pickleball throughout Indonesia," said Prof. Nurhasan.
The declaration of Pickleball in Indonesia emerges chances and opportunities such as international level achievement and the emersion of a structured organization, so that many international championship activities can be carried out, as had previously been done in Taiwan and Hong Kong, as well as opening new opportunities in the production of tools (paddles) because currently the tools are still imported from the USA and China.
Prof. Nurhasan in his speech also hoped that in the future, IPA could become an official member of Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) and Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI). In addition, Pickleball can also be a community sport that can become a forum for recruiting talented athletes, organizing coaching and championships, both at regional and national levels, and developing athletes to be able to compete in international championships and represent Indonesia.
"This task will be easier if we work hand in hand to make our dreams come true. We are also optimistic, with our shared passion and dedication, our common noble goals can be realized," added Prof. Nurhasan.
Meanwhile, Vice Rector for Student and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Agus Hariyanto, M.Kes., hoped that after the implementation of the National Conference, there will be a realization of the real Pickleball championship. "Hopefully the General Chairman will be able to initiate and bring Pickleball to the National Sports Week in the following year," said Agus.
Susilo M.Pd., D.Ed., the initiator of Pickleball in Indonesia, also expressed his pride at the formation of Pickleball's big board through the National Conference today. "I am optimistic, after the formation of the official Pickleball management, this sport will be popularized," he said. (ay)
