Launching the Ministry of Health, based on the Indonesian Health Survey (SKI) 2023, hypertension is the highest risk factor for death in Indonesia with a percentage of 10.2%.
Seeing the high number, it is necessary to education about risk factors, including prevention and early detection of hypertension. For this reason, the Lecturer Team SURABAYA STATE UNIVERSITY (UNESA) consisting of Muchamad Arif Al Ardha, Dzulkiflih, and Wahyu Dwi Kurniawan designed Hand-Held Dynamometer (Handem). hypertension and stroke. "This tool is developed as an alternative solution for early detection as well as hypertensive rehabilitation," explained Ardha, Chairperson of the Research Team of Help .
According to the Lecturer in the Biomechanics Course, the Faculty of Sports and Health (FIKK), muscle strength is closely correlated with blood pressure conditions. An imbalance of muscle strength becomes one indicator of a cardiovascular system disorder.
This is where the role of the reliability, utilizes the principle of motion kinetics to measure the muscle force that can be accessed practically, without the need for a laboratory. "Handem can be used at home, in schools, even in the field. The shape is concise and easy to carry. We want this tool to bring health services closer to the community," added Ardha.
Handem not the result of work last night, but through research titled " Hand-Held Dynamometer (Handem) as a solution for medical devices to help prevent and rehabilitation when hypertension." The concept is designed by the research team, then translated into the form of prototypes by industrial partners. This project lasted two years, with the location of testing in Surabaya and Sidoarjo.
"For prototypes only one year time. Then for the development and test of validation is also one year. For trials carried out systematically in various fields, ranging from health, achievement sports, to education," said Ardha.
Handem has been introduced through domestic exhibitions and abroad. In fact, received appreciation from the ASEAN Council of Physical Education and Sport in the International Conference on Physical Education in Malaysia, 2024. This tool will be sought to be mass produced, both on a national and international scale. Unfortunately, continued Ardha, due to limited funds, making production and marketing has not been maximized.
"I hope this tool will not only get Unesa support, but also partners. And the hope is that this tool can be a solution in various fields, especially health, achievement sports, and education" concluded Ardha. []
