Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA–In this difficult time, contribution and sharing is very important. For this reason, Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP) of the State University of Surabaya held a social activity in the form of distributing 1,000 food packages to the public on Tuesday, (24/08/2021).
The activity which was held at Graha Unesa, Unesa Campus Street, Lidah Wetan, Surabaya was included in the routine activities of the UNESA DWP. The goal is to strengthen each other, to keep the spirit of surviving in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, to ease the economic burden of many people who are in the midst of this pandemic.
Dra. Endah Purnomowati Nurhasan, M.Pd, Chair of the UNESA DWP said that the social service was part of the 57th UNESA Anniversary celebration series. "We want every Unesa Dies Natalis momentum to provide something that is useful and directly felt by the community," he said.
Meanwhile, Noer Rochmawati as the chief executive of the event explained that there were eight kelurahan that were targeted for the distribution of the basic necessities; Wetan Tongue, Orange, Lontar, Kulon Tongue, Swipe, Wonokromo, Ketintang and Karah. In addition to the people in the eight urban villages, the distribution also targets campus security officers, cleaners, and students.
The food packages contain basic necessities such as rice, cooking oil and so on. In the distribution of goods in this activity, DWP was supported by 12 student volunteers.
He added that, apart from the food distribution agenda, a series of other social activities would also be held, such as donations to 1,000 orphans at several Surabaya Foundations. The activity is planned to be carried out virtually considering the Covid-19 outbreak is still endemic. Noer Rochmawati hopes that the activities carried out by the UNESA DWP this time can be an encouragement for the DWP and the UNESA extended family to continue to share and give meaning to the surrounding community.
“The package is not much, but the spirit of mutual cooperation and sharing is what we spread. One person or institution who shares can give meaning to the community, especially if the spirit of sharing is carried out by several and many institutions, it's certainly better, right," he said. "We believe, by sharing and empathizing with each other, we can survive and be strong through this pandemic," he added. (Hasna/Zam)
