Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-The Chancellor of the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes was one of the speakers in the XIV Haryono Show with the theme 'Higher Education in a Pandemic Period' on Thursday, November 4, 2021. On that occasion the Chancellor lined up with two other university leaders, Prof. Dr. Masrukhi, M.Pd Chancellor of the University of Muhammadiyah Semarang (Unimus) and Dr. H. Parji, M.Pd., University Records PGRI Madiun (Unipma).
Prof. Nurhasan took the opportunity to share experiences and experiences of UNESA in dealing with the pandemic, since the repatriation of UNESA students in Wuhan until the new normal period. He said that universities had an important role in breaking the chain of Covid-19 spread in the community.
This can be done in many ways, either through research, innovation, direct assistance or in other forms of service. These methods were taken by UNESA since before the first Covid-19 case was announced in Indonesia, precisely when dealing with dozens of students trapped in the city of Wuhan.
At the beginning of the pandemic in Indonesia, according to him, UNESA can be said to be the first university to have a special institution for handling Covid-19, at that time it was named the Unesa Crisis Center (UCC) and now it has been transformed into the Crisis Mitigas Center (SMCC) Unit. Against the role of this institution, UNESA continues to support the government in suppressing the spread of Covid-19. Starting from producing hand sanitizers, hazmat, herbal drinks and masks. In fact, the Faculty of Engineering designed special robots and drones to help medical personnel in hospitals in handling Covid-19 patients.
It didn't stop there, to increase public awareness of the importance of clean and healthy living behavior, UNESA sent the most Behavior Change Ambassadors in Indonesia. The ambassadors collaborated with the government through several ministries tasked with educating the public on the importance of health protocols and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. "UNESA's Behavior Change Ambassadors don't play around and the most are around 7,868 students," he said.
He continued, the key to facing a pandemic lies in three things, namely sticking and obeying health protocols; wear a mask, keep your distance and wash your hands regularly. Then maintain a clean and healthy lifestyle (PHBS) and it is also important to follow vaccinations to increase immunity so that the potential for spread is small and the symptoms of Covid-19 are not much.
"Even though this case is sloping, it's still important to do prokes, vaccines and PHBS, and even become a daily habit. The most important thing is that we continue to collaborate to overcome the pandemic until it is complete," he said. “I hope we don't let our guard down, because all these diseases come from our own way of thinking and living. If our lifestyle and patterns are healthy, our minds are healthy, God willing, the disease will pass," he said.
Prof. Masrukhi also said that universities had a big contribution to the country, including in handling the pandemic. He emphasized that the key to fighting the epidemic lies in the behavior and habits of the community, one of which is obeying the prokes. On its campus, Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang, although the case started to slow down, learning which was initially online was directed at a face-to-face system that was limited and gradual with strict mandatory procedures.
In addition, his party also always adapts by utilizing learning technology so that all activities can run smoothly and well. "Such as collaborative and interdisciplinary online learning, student humanitarian volunteer activities (KKN Daring)," he said.
Dr. On that occasion, Parji shared about the experience of the campus he has led in dealing with the pandemic so far. So far, Universitas PGRI Madiun (Unipma) has received good responses from the community in Madiun and its surroundings, both in controlling the pandemic and others. For him, the task of higher education is not only to produce graduates, but also to produce graduates who are ready and able to contribute to society and the nation.
"Therefore, the existing programs at Unipma are always related to how they can contribute to the community, and currently the efforts that have been made are getting a good response from the people of Madiun and its surroundings," he said.
In addition, he said that in making and conducting program activities, UNIPMA always uses the 3C formula (Concern, Commitment, Continuous). Concern in question is attention in various ways. Commitment provides a good commitment, such as in terms of research, the quality of learning and how Unipma can provide added value to the community. Furthermore, Continuous, which means that all of these activities have a far-sighted vision. (UNESA PR)
