Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-Surabaya State University (UNESA) is involved in Sister City collaboration between the Surabaya City Government (Pemkot) and the Liverpool (City) Government, United Kingdom (UK). The campus involvement led by Cak Hasan is in line with the direction of collaboration which focuses on inclusive children's education programs.
As a strengthening of this cooperation, the ranks of the British Embassy to Indonesia and the leadership of UNESA held a meeting in the Meeting Room, 8th Floor, Rectorate Building, Lidah Wetan Campus, Surabaya on Tuesday, 28 June 2022.
Deputy British Ambassador Rob Venn said that the discussion and cooperation was based on the commitment of the British government with Indonesia in this case the East Java Provincial Government and the Surabaya City Government to realize the quality of inclusive children's accessibility in various aspects.
“For this purpose, this collaboration needs to also involve campuses, including UNESA, which does have a track record and commitment in the field of disability. This discussion is related to the common perception, program plans and directions for future cooperation," he said.
Meanwhile, UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., welcomed the discussion and cooperation. According to him, the problem of disability is part of UNESA's responsibility. That was the commitment of the “One Step Ahead” campus from the start. “Friends with disabilities must be a shared concern. This collaboration is certainly a breath of fresh air in improving the quality of access and inclusive services in Indonesia and even in the world,” he said.
Regarding disability, he continued, UNESA does not only work with the UK, but also with various other countries, such as Canada to Spain. Even now, his party is developing the Unesa Disability Inclusion Metric (UDIM) as a universal parameter of the accessibility level of persons with disabilities in world institutions or organizations. The development of UDIM has reached the maturation stage with experts and users as well as domestic and foreign partners.
For this collaboration, his party will direct the available resources so that the common goals and expectations in the collaboration can be achieved and quality accessibility is realized for children with disabilities. "UNESA has a Disability Service Study Center (PSLD), Special Education Study Program (PLB), disability-friendly infrastructure and various innovations in it," he said.
Cak Hasan hopes that this collaboration will not only cover the field of disability, but also develop in various other aspects. The meeting was attended by the Deputy of the British Embassy to Indonesia, Rob Frenn; Head of Second Cities, Network and Strategy Samuel Hayes; The New Head of Second Cities Farah C; East Regional Outreach Manager Erlin Puspitasari; and British Honorary Consul Ivy Kamadjaja, Sueb and his staff.
