Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-The Review Team of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenpora RI) made a visit to the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. The visit was in order to review UNESA's preparations as one of the centers for developing DBON athletes (Great Design for National Sports).
The Kemenpora Review Team and the DBON team, accompanied by UNESA leaders, first reviewed the dormitory which was planned to be part of the athlete accommodation. Then the athletic field; running field, soccer field, volleyball court, swimming pool, gym, to basketball court. After that, the team continued to survey the doping laboratory that had just been built and the UNESA labschool. Next, the team headed to the gymnasium and thor field.
For dormitories, the number of rooms prepared is forty-three rooms with en-suite bathrooms. There are rooms with two beds and one room with four beds. The front side of the room will be equipped with a dining table so that athletes do not have trouble having breakfast and eating.
“This accommodation and labschool is important, considering that the students who will be fostered are elementary school graduates. Everything has to be really ready. This I see is qualified. Earlier, the Rector said that doctors and psychologists were also prepared," said Dr. M. Aziz., M.Pd., one of the Kemenpora Review team

M Aziz added that the purpose of the visit was to ensure UNESA facilities and accommodation as one of the centers for DBON athlete development. The standard of facilities and everything must be national and international.
"From the previous visit, in general UNESA is very feasible. Of course, there is no doubt that the human resources are already qualified. There are experts, there are psychologists, there are doctors, complete. Indeed, there are some things that need to be addressed and I think it can be done,” he explained.
He added, there are 14 sports that are included in the DBON program. Coaching is carried out in 10 centers. Initially, the implementation of the program was only carried out in four development centers, namely UNESA, UPI, UNNES and UNJ. He hopes that the implementation of the DBON can run smoothly and the national sports achievement target can be achieved.
The DBON team, Prof. Dr. H. Hari Setijono, M.Pd., explained that UNESA has prepared sports facilities and accommodations to maximize the development of DBON athletes. "These facilities and accommodations are very vital, because those who are fostered are elementary school (SD) graduates," he said.
In addition, it also prepares trainers and other personnel such as nutritionists, strength and conditioning experts and other experts. Everything is prepared to the best. But that, he continued, all must pass the selection.
“The staff who recruit and train athletes are the best that UNESA has. If UNESA has qualified technical personnel, you can also enter. It can also be taken from the existing sports coach. It is possible for coaches from outside to enter," he explained.
UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Pd., said that the development of DBON athletes is planned to start on 27 July 2022. Registration and selection of athlete participants begins in early July. The target is students who graduate from elementary school (SD) or who will enter junior high school (SMP) throughout Indonesia. For athletes who pass the selection, they will become state children, aka state borne.
UNESA has experience as an athlete coaching center in East Java. Therefore, of course he is very ready to implement and run the DBON athlete coaching program. "Hopefully this can go smoothly as expected. Athletes can train and study well and in the next few years can become Indonesia's mainstay athletes on the world stage. This is our collective duty and our common target,” he said.
The visit was not only attended by the ranks of the Kemenpora Review Team and the DBON Team, it was also attended by UNESA leaders, deans and vice deans of the Faculty of Sports Science (FIO). Including, the trainers around UNESA. Hopefully it will be implemented and the best athletes in the country will be able to make Indonesia proud in the international arena. Greetings sports.
