The UNESA Biology Education Student Association shared with residents of Sumokali, Candi Sidoarjo about how to process family medicinal plants (toga) into healthy and marketable yoghurt products.
Unesa. AC ID. SURABAYA—The Biology Education Student Association "Red Pineapple" Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) Surabaya State University (UNESA) succeeded in obtaining funding for the Ormawa PPK proposal.
PPK Ormawa, or Student Organization Capacity Strengthening Program is a program from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology. PPK Ormawa from HMP Biology Education Unesa brought up the topic 'Toga Conservation Village (Family Medicinal Plants)'. The targeted village is Sumokali Village, Candi District, Sidoarjo.
Ormawa PPK team student, Norreha Sekar Diaz Nefitri, said that one of the programs implemented was holding a workshop on making YOKEL (yogurt, moringa and telang). The aim is to provide provisions to the Sumokali village community to be able to innovate in toga processing. It is hoped that this will increase the opportunities for Sumokali village to improve the village economy.

Yogurt selected as a product innovation due to the popularity of this type of drink among Indonesian people. Apart from that, telang and moringa plants are one of the commodities in Sumokali village. This is certainly a great opportunity to make YOKEL an innovative product from Sumokali village that can compete in the market.
"This yoghurt, moringa and telang uses the juice of moringa leaves and also telang flowers as flavoring and natural coloring in the yoghurt that is made. "Apart from providing a distinctive taste, YOKEL also gets additional nutritional value from the healthy contents of moringa and telang," he explained.

YOKEL Workshop held on Saturday, August 10 2024 at the Sumokali Village Hall. This activity was attended by 55 participants consisting of women from Sumokali village. The speakers for this activity were Biology Education students, members of PPK Ormawa, namely Norreha Sekar Diaz Nefitri and Kholilah Dwi Kartika Desi.
The activity opened with a briefing from the Village Head, Subiyanto. Then proceed with providing material regarding moringa and telang yoghurt for 15 minutes. After that, there was a question and answer session from the participants.
The workshop activities then continued with direct practice which was attended by 2 mothers who took part in the practice at the front of the stage. After the practice was finished, the Ormawa PPK team also gave the yoghurt that had been made to the village, so that all participants could share and enjoy it.[]
