Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-A total of 9 students and trainers from the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) managed to bring home two gold medals in the 2021 Petanque Sports National Championship which was held at the Petanque Field, Jakarta State University on 6-7 November 2021. The national championship which had been on hiatus for two years due to the pandemic followed by 124 participants from 28 universities spread across 17 provinces.
UNESA Team Dominates Double Mix
The competition was held in three categories, there were double mix, double women and double men. On that occasion, the UNESA team managed to compete with various teams from other universities. In the Double Mix category, four (4) UNESA teams consisting of Dhoni Wahyu Trisbiantoro and Sephiya Febriyanti managed to secure the first place.
Then through the struggle of the three (3) UNESA teams consisting of Mukosym and Putri Rarahdilah also managed to occupy the second position in the same category. Team two (2) UNESA consisting of Raca Prayu Nada and Nihaya Zul Farida also won third place with a team from the State University of Jakarta. It didn't stop there, in the Double Women category, two (2) UNESA teams consisting of Sephia Febriyanti and Nihaya Zul Farida managed to occupy the first position. Then the second and third place winners were won by Unja, Unsil and a team from Warmadewa State University.
First Gold Since 2015
The students and trainers were greeted directly by the UNESA leadership at the UNESA Rectorate Campus Lidah Wetan on Tuesday, November 9, 2021. On that occasion, UNESA Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., appreciated the achievements of the students and coaches of the UNESA Petanque sport who finally managed to bring in many champions at the kerjunas. These achievements are not obtained easily, but of course through hard work, training and sweat. “The process does not betray the results and the results are extraordinary. Moreover, this is the first gold since 2015,” he said.
Chancellor Gives Another Scholarship
According to him, although the sport which originated from traditional French games has become a mandatory sport since 2011 in Indonesia. However, it is not widely known by the public. Therefore, through the achievements of the UNESA team, they can further enliven the sport in the community and inspire many other students and generations to achieve achievements in various national and international sporting events.
"UNESA must become a center of excellence in the field of sports and be a driver of progress and improve sports achievements in East Java and Indonesia," he said enthusiastically. To these students, the Chancellor of UNESA promised scholarships as a form of appreciation and encouragement to be more active in practicing and achieving more achievements in the future. The scholarship is in the form of UKT waivers.
UNESA Hosts Petanque Open Championship
In order to bring the sport of Petanque to life, UNESA is currently preparing to hold an open championship of Petanque throughout Indonesia that can be participated by the general public. The championship is planned to be held on 26-27 November 2021 at UNESA, Lidah Wetan Campus. For information, Pétanque is a sport played by throwing an iron ball as close as possible to a wooden ball placed in front of the player as a target and the feet must be in a small circle.
