Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya–The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and a series of restrictions on activities outside the home make people prone to stress. To help reduce stress and its symptoms, UNESA PKM-K students created an aromatherapy lotion from banana leaf extract.
The alternative stress treatment was born from the 'hands' of the PKM-K team consisting of Desy Nur Rahmawati from Counseling Guidance S-1, Nadifa Nur Permata from Chemistry Education S-1, Anik Novitasari S-1 Accounting Education, Rizki Mulianingsih S-1 Psychology , and Muhammad Qomaruddin Sya'bani S-1 Educational Technology.
The innovation was proposed in PKM-K with the title "Aromatherapy Lotion from Banana Leaf Extract as a Stress Release and Skin Relaxation Product".
The chairman of PKM-K, Desy said that a number of activity restrictions during the pandemic and concerns about health conditions including depressed economic conditions during the pandemic were prone to causing stress, even depression.
Based on the data, he continued, people need stress relief materials or drugs. He further said that stress can also be a major trigger for skin inflammation problems, oily skin, or dry skin.
"To help alleviate these problems, we created this Care-U Lotion," he said while showing their innovative products. He added, Care-U is a natural aromatherapy lotion from plantain leaf extract. The serotonin content in bananas is efficacious in reducing stress. With the content of vitamin B and vitamin E in it also serves to maintain skin moisture.
Wiryo Nuryono, S.Pd., M.Pd., as the supervising lecturer from the PKM-K team said that the lotion found and made by his students was an effort by UNESA students to help reduce stress and anxiety due to the pandemic.
"Hopefully, alternative medicine for student innovation can help the community, be a trigger for them (students under their guidance, ed) and other students to continue to bring innovation and continue to contribute to society," he hoped. (Has/zam)
