Tackling radicalism and terrorism movements in the community does need the right strategy, a comprehensive approach, and involving many parties. In this regard, Surabaya State University has a special formula to anticipate the emergence of this movement on and off campus.
UNESA Rector Prof. Dr. Nurhasan. M.Kes, through his remarks in a guest lecture on "countering radicalism" some time ago, said that ideas that trigger acts of terror must be prevented and their emergence should be anticipated as early as possible. One of them is by optimizing the cultivation of Pancasila values to the nation's generations.
At Unesa, Pancasila values are the spirit in curriculum design. Pancasila values are inserted into courses and manifested in every learning organization in each class.
Pancasila Village Pioneers
In addition, Unesa also designed a special Community Service program to pioneer Pancasila Village in several districts in East Java. According to him, the Pancasila Desan will later become important centers of ideological development and as a forum for directing Pancasila in the midst of society. "Of course, our program is not just a discussion or doctrine, but actually brings Pancasila to the realm of innovation, achievement and collaboration in the community," he explained.
Efforts will also be made to the Pancasila Village to become a model village in terms of planting and implementing Pancasila values. "Starting Pancasila Village is indeed challenging, but it will be easy if we have the determination and work together for it," he said.
Ideology Development Center (PPI)
Unesa also established an Ideology Development Center which functions as a forum for building a national ideology based on the values of Pancasila. The approach used is based on education and science. According to Cak Hasan (his nickname), PPI is at the forefront of early detection of dangerous movements for the integrity of the nation on campus. "If detected, they will immediately be handled and given special guidance, so that dangerous understandings will disappear and be complete," he said.
Strengthen the Free Radicalism Ambassador
In order to involve the active role of students, Unesa also confirmed students as free ambassadors of radicalism at a national webinar on radicalism on April 30, 2021 on the 11th Floor of Lidah Wetan's Unesa Rectorate Building. The ambassadors have a duty to conduct socialization and become the vanguard in measuring the emergence and growth of ideological movements that are contrary to Pancasila among students.
Build the Pancasila Monument
The manifestation of Unesa's commitment to grounding the values of Pancasila is by building a Pancasila monument at the Lidah Wetan Unesa's Free Learning Lab. Through this monument, Unesa affirms the integrated value of Pancasila and encourages the implementation of the Tridarma of Higher Education in Unesa.
"The breath of education in Unesa is Pancasila. Pancasila is unity, justice, prosperity, progress and excellence for the people and nation of Indonesia. That is what we are trying to do, ”he said. "The hope is that we are nationals and countrymen, whatever our group, nation and religion can live in peace and feel the same in unity within the bonds of the Republic of Indonesia," he continued.
