The Department of Fine Arts and Design Education, State University of Surabaya (Unesa) held an online public lecture with the topic of "Be Creative or Die" on Saturday (3/10/2020). This public lecture presented Dr. Djuli Djatiprambudi, M.Sn, a curator, researcher and lecturer in the Department of Fine Arts and Design at Unesa.
In his story, Djuli shared his experiences as a student. He admitted that he never imagined being a curator. Initially, he was interested in mathematics. In fact, he used to be a mathematics teacher at Senior High School for 7 years. However, as time goes by, Djuli finally intersected with the world of art, leading him to become a lecturer and even a curator.
Djuli said that all artworks that have been made must be published so that they can be widely known by the public. This is because people's intelligence will not be trusted if there is no trace of their works. "There is no need to worry that our work is considered good or bad by the community. We must still go on," he said.
In addition, Djuli also shared his experience of making large-scale exhibitions in 1991. Djuli admitted that his success in holding these activities was based on his experience of seeing large exhibitions and his interactions with various parties.
Djuli also said that lately, there are more and more myths that must be pondered upon. For example, there are many people who’s capable but are lacking in terms of development or innovation. (nov/sir)
