Unesa.ac.id. SURABAYA - The national film (HFN) day is commemorated every 30 March. On the 75th commemoration of 2025, HFN carries the tagline 'A Jad the Story of One Indonesia' as a form of shared ideals that were born from the collective work of various elements of society for the advancement of national cinema.
Lecturer in S-1 Film and Animation Study Program, Faculty of Language and Arts (FBS), Surabaya State University (Unesa), Tri Cahyo Kusumandyoko said that HFN is a place for appreciation for industry players who have contributed and reminders for the public to continue to support local works.
Animated format continues to grow rapidly. Various successful films are produced by talents of the country, which not only succeeded in the country, but also succeeded in penetrating foreign markets.
Nevertheless, the film industry still has to hit various challenges such as limited infrastructure, difficult funding access, and uneven distribution. Many local filmmakers and animators need production support and market access.

Therefore, collaboration of all elements, including the government is very necessary to create a better film ecosystem. HFN must be a momentum for strengthening collaboration to advance the Indonesian film industry.
This collaboration must be completely realized in the form of strategic programs. The presence of the government becomes very important, to expand the way of creativity and innovation for film activists in the country.
The Role of Higher Education
Higher education has an important role in advancing the homeland film industry through the support of the resources or young talents produced. That role is done by Surabaya State University (Unesa) through the opening of S-1 Film and Animation Study Program.
"S-1 Film and Animation Study Program Brings the vision of advancing the homeland film industry as well as to strengthen the creative industry ecosystem in the field of film and animation. Therefore, the profile of graduates can be director, producer, video editor, content creators, game developers, and others," he explained.
With an interdisciplinary approach, this new Unesa study program not only studies the technical aspects of film making and animation, but also get skills from various fields, such as visual communication design (DKV), artificial intelligence, theater, literature, and others.
This approach aims to enrich understanding and strengthen student competencies, so that they are able to create strong works both visually and narratively.
In addition, this program also emphasizes the integration of the nation's culture so that the work produced has the characteristics of Indonesia and global competitiveness.
