Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA—Indonesia and China have collaborated and produced investment agreements in various sectors, including the education sector. This collaboration involves a number of universities in Indonesia, one of which is Surabaya State University (UNESA) which signed a collaboration with Yuanli International Education (China), on Saturday, 21 October 2023 at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition, BSD, Tangerang.
< p>This Cooperation Agreement was pressed directly by the CEO of Yuanli International Education, Lisa Wang and the Chancellor of UNESA represented by the Deputy Chancellor for Field I Prof. Dr. Madlazim, M.Si; Deputy Chancellor for Division IV Prof. Dr. Siti Nur Azizah, MH., and Head of UPT Confucius Institute, Sueb, M.Pd."Thank God, UNESA is again part of the Indonesia-China cooperation program in the education sector which consists of five categories with different investment systems. Well, UNESA together with 3 other campuses in Indonesia are entering the cooperation scheme with Yuanli International Education," said Madlazim, Deputy Chancellor for Division I, UNESA.
He added that there are several programs that will be realized in the near future, including the 3+1 international academic program which consists of cooperation in recognizing past learning or RPL/international transfer credit through the U-to-B collaboration route with Yuanli International Education.
Deputy Chancellor for field IV, Siti Nur Azizah added, with this 3+1 scheme collaboration, Chinese students who have taken Diploma 3 students can continue their undergraduate equivalent studies at UNESA for 1 year. UNESA will calculate the conversion or recognition of credits that have been taken in China and students will take the remaining credits at UNESA, including completion of the final assignment as a requirement for graduating from undergraduate degrees.
"There are around 28 undergraduate study programs that we are preparing to accept "international students from China, especially study programs that have been accredited very well and internationally. This program starts in the Even Semester 2023/2024," said the professor of Law and Halal Business.

In order to realize this collaboration, Head of the UPT Confucius Institute, Sueb said, UNESA has made several preparations such as preparing a curriculum for international academic programs.
In this program, he continued, international students can also learn about Indonesian culture and language classes for Foreign Speakers (BIPA ). Apart from that, there is also a field trip program which will take students to enjoy tourism in Surabaya and its surroundings.
"Of the several campuses collaborating in this scheme, UNESA is considered the most ready to start this program in the Even semester "From the academic side, UNESA has been registered with official partner universities and is recognized at the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE), Ministry of Education of China," explained Sueb.
With the certainty of UNESA's legal status for the Chinese Government, he continued, prospective international students from China are more comfortable and confident in continuing their studies at UNESA.
"Yuanli International Education hopes that UNESA as a key partner can develop this 3+1 scheme cooperation to master's and doctoral levels, so that students who have completed 1 year of study at UNESA can continue their studies at UNESA," he explained.
Apart from that, several other international collaborations with institutions in China are being initiated by UNESA, such as cooperation scheme 1+1+1. With this scheme, UNESA students go to China (outbound). 1-2 years at UNESA, 1 year in China, and 1 year in industry
There is also a 2+2 double degree cooperation scheme at UNESA and Chinese universities, as well as a competency improvement program for Indonesian teachers and lecturers in China.
Additional information on the context of China's international cooperation, UNESA has collaborated with Central China Normal University (CCNU) as a sister campus in managing the Confucius Institute since 2011. This year, the UNESA Confucius Institute will celebrate 12th anniversary, making Unesa's Confucius Institute one of the oldest CIs in Indonesia.
UNESA hopes that the existence of CI will not only accommodate the learning of Mandarin and Chinese culture, but will act as a bridge for developing Unesa's collaboration with institutions in China through student/teacher mobility schemes, joint research, credit transfer, and so on.[]
