Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA–In strengthening spirituality ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, the State University of Surabaya (UNESA) held a recitation which was attended by KH. Abdurrahman Al-Kautsar (Gus Kautsar), Caretaker of the Al-Falah Islamic Boarding School, Ploso-Kediri, on Thursday night, March 31, 2022 at the 11th Floor Auditorium, Rectorate Building, Lidah Wetan Campus, Surabaya.
Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Dr. M. Turhan Yani, MA., said that although the pandemic has not ended, the spirit of worship and work is maintained. "With the presence of young kiai and intellectuals of Indonesian Muslims, he hopes to strengthen religiosity and improve the quality of worship to Allah SWT and have an impact on achievements and innovations at UNESA.
“Especially before this blessed month, we hope that we are ready to improve the quality and quantity of worship. Both obligatory and sunnah worship, as well as social worship. Our work is intended to worship, so that it will be more blessed and more successful," he said.
Ramadan Without Hate
On that occasion, Gus Kautsar reminded again of the importance of welcoming the holy month of Ramadan with feelings of pleasure and joy. As agreed by the scholars, before the fasting month there must be preparations, including eliminating hatred towards others.
Most of the Al-Qur'an contains stories of the past that can be a lesson in the life of today's people and about how humans live socially, side by side with other people. "Don't let us feel close to Allah SWT, but don't build love and concern for others," he stressed.
The Muslim is the one who is truly able to keep his verbal hand so as not to harm others or hurt the feelings of others. The attitude that Islam teaches so that its adherents bring comfort to those around them. Rewards, he continued, are not only obtained through obligatory and sunnah worship, but also through guarding mouths and attitudes from hurting others.
Tolerance
This attitude does not only apply to fellow Muslims, but also applies to people of other religions. Tolerance needs to be continuously cultivated in the life of the nation and state.” Our presence must provide a sense of security and comfort for others, not impose anything in the name of anything, including religion," he explained.
Gus Kautsar also conveyed the importance of worship and continue to increase worship to Allah SWT. The quality of obligatory and sunnah worship is improved, including social worship or ways of relating to fellow human beings. He advised, to make activities and work as part of worship.
"Hopefully UNESA in the future will be better, more advanced, more beneficial for the community, nation and state. His achievements are getting more and more, his works are even more abundant as part of his service to the nation and state," he hoped.
On that occasion, there was a discussion between the Chancellor of UNESA Prof. Dr. Nurhasan, M.Kes., with Gus Kautsar about the plan to build a synergy between UNESA and the students or Islamic boarding schools. Gus Kautsar welcomed the talks and hoped that it would be realized soon. "The Chancellor offered a lot earlier, so maybe at first we had a plan to upgrade the linguistic side of the students, I just chose two first, English and Mandarin," he said. [UNESA PR]
