Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA_The State University of Surabaya (UNESA) continues to be committed to encouraging and realizing micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as a driving force for the community's economy. One of them is through the Community Partnership Program (PKM), a team of UNESA lecturers provides training and assistance to one of the small bakpia industries in Magetan Regency.
The UNESA PKM team consists of Puguh Novi Prasetyono, S.Pd., M.T., Dr. Anam Miftakhul Huda, M.IKom., and Drs. Bambang Sujatmiko, M.T. They provide training and assistance and submit special machine innovations to increase the capacity and quality of bakpia production to partner MSMEs, Abadi Berkah Gemilang.
Abadi Berkah Gemilang is a Pia Menus MSME located in Takeran Village, Magetan Regency. Well, the machine that was handed over served to steam the ingredients for making bakpia without going through the soaking process. So that the production process of Pia Menus can be faster, more effective, and productive.
In addition, UNESA also helps partners in developing digital marketing systems through website design. "We support Pia Menus MSMEs through optimizing product marketing via online, both web and social media, so that their products are increasingly known to the wider community," said Puguh Novi Prasetyono.
According to Puguh, during the pandemic, the community's economy has reached an alarming point. Purchasing power decreased dramatically as incomes fell, and unemployment rose. One of the hardest hit by the pandemic is MSMEs. For those who are already effective and efficient in their production and marketing processes, admit that they have been hit by the pandemic, especially MSMEs that are still using conventional production and marketing patterns, of course surviving is difficult.
For this reason, he and his team provided assistance to UKM Pia Menus. Their efforts are to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of production using specially designed machines. Production that previously took a long time is made simple without compromising the quality of production.
“The business formula is, on the one hand, we press the production budget as much as possible without reducing the quality and on the other hand continue to increase the sales figures. So, our strategy here is to use a digital technology approach," he explained.
With the technology design and assistance, he is optimistic that Bakpia SMEs in Magetan can continue to grow and become one of the drivers of the economic advancement of the Magetan community and its surroundings. According to Puguh, bakpia is indeed widely produced in various regions, and the city that is synonymous with bakpia souvenirs is Yogyakarta.
However, he added, bakpia in each region has a different taste. He gave an example, Pia Menus is a typical Magetan bakpia with a characteristic texture that tends to be dry and soft. He hopes that the bakpia in Magetan, apart from being a typical souvenir of Magetan, can also be known by the wider community and sell well in the online and offline market.
"We also hope that when people go to Magetan, one of the things they look for is the bakpia and if that is the case, hopefully MSMEs in Magetan can really become the wheels of the community's economy," he concluded. The PKM received support from the center in the form of funding from the Directorate of Research and Community Service for the 2021 Fiscal Year. #UNESAuntukIndonesia [UNESA Public Relations]
