Unesa.ac.id., SURABAYA—Subdirectorate of Crisis Center Mitigation (SMCC), Directorate of Prevention and Management of Campus Strategic Issues, Surabaya State University (UNESA) held a webinar on Disaster Mitigation in Sports Events on Thursday, (5/10/2023 ).
Prof. Dr. Mutimmatul Faidah, S.Ag., M.Ag., Director of Prevention and Management of Campus Strategic Issues, said that this activity was a commitment to mitigate possible disasters in the sports sector.
According to him, sports in Indonesia are still characterized by a number of incidents. which is unpleasant and is related to the implementation of occupational health and safety or K3.
“This activity is important and it is hoped that sporting events will be far from undesirable. "Even when it happens, we have anticipated and been prepared, to minimize casualties and so on," he said.
As a speaker, Dr. Aghus Sifaq, S.Or., M.Pd., explained that disasters when these events occur cannot be predicted in terms of time and number of victims. One of the disasters in sports that is often encountered is a commotion where one of the triggers for the commotion is the mentality of the players.
"There are many facts, it could be from players, referees and officials who are less professional, it could also be from supporters and "third parties," he said.
According to him, there needs to be a separation between supporters and non-supporters in matches to minimize riots during the event. Reflecting on the Kanjuruhan tragedy last time, he emphasized that there needs to be some more anticipation so that it doesn't happen. the tragedy.
"The medical team that assists at sporting events must be prepared to face all possible worst risks such as disability and even death. "The security forces also need to collaborate with the community in security," said the Head of the Disaster and K3 Section.
Other speakers, Dr. Poppy Elisano, S.Pd., M.Pd., Head of the Development and Empowerment Department P3KORIN, explained that there are five causes of disasters in sports in Indonesia, namely accidents in matches, spectator safety, failure to organize events, doping and related controversies, and natural disasters.
There are several disaster mitigations in sports such as risk evaluation, emergency planning for location selection, weather monitoring and so on. He emphasized that sporting activities definitely need risk evaluation, which requires thinking about the worst event when the event takes place.
"We don't know when the event takes place what the worst event will be , but it requires anticipatory preparation from various parties, including participants during natural events, which of course prioritizes communication,"
Disaster mitigation certainly cannot be separated from the evacuation process. The role of medical personnel at events is very vital, even though it is not very visible, but during an event medical personnel have an influence and play a big role in overseeing the continuity of an event.
"The important role of the medical team is felt if an emergency occurs during the event, " he said.
