Unesa.ac.id, SURABAYA-In order to increase entrepreneurial activity among students, majoring in Arts, Drama, Dance and Music (Sendratasik), the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) held an online seminar “Entrepreneurship Generates Opportunities for Students to Become Entrepreneurs” on Wednesday, July 13, 2022.
The event organizers presented M. Rois Abidin, S.Pd., M.Pd., entrepreneur and UNESA DKV Study Program Lecturer, and Mamik Sudarsi, S.Pd., a UNESA graduate who became the founder of Army Dance Production as a speaker.
Drs. Bambang Sugito, M.Sn., Head of the Entrepreneurship Seminar of the UNESA Ballet School Department in his speech said that this activity reached 109 registrants, both from UNESA students themselves and other universities. "I hope that holding this seminar will provide benefits to the participants in entrepreneurship according to the field they are involved in," he said.
Dr. Anik Juwariyah, M.Sc., Head of the UNESA Sendratasik Department in his speech explained that entrepreneurship was originally an elective subject and is now a compulsory subject for students. "So that the existence of these courses and the implementation of this activity can encourage students to develop entrepreneurial talents both during and after graduation," he said.
“From this resource person, of course there is a lot of knowledge and opportunities that can continue to encourage and inspire students in entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is a promising option these days,” said the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni of the Faculty of Languages and Arts UNESA, Syafiul Anam, Ph.D.
M. Rois Abidin explained that during the Covid-19 pandemic, business actors in the creative economy sector experienced changes, one of which was the transition of industrial activities to online. This can be seen from business actors who use social media in their services. "So that with the extraordinary use of social media and its increasing number of users, it becomes a gap for creative economy business actors to take advantage of platforms to sell products or services," he explained.
In entrepreneurship in the creative economy sector, especially in creative art products and intellectual property rights, one must recognize the potential, one of which is important to understand, namely the potential of the product. He also added that the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy also organizes various international reputable activities. “This is an opportunity that must be looked forward to. Where is this business going, what are the opportunities now and in the future and what should we do to fill the opportunities that exist,” he said.
Mamik Sudarsi explained her experience as an entrepreneur in the field of fine arts. He founded a dance studio that started with dancing practice at his home by gathering the closest children from his house. With his experience in college, he also makes costumes and leads his dance group to perform at several events in Surabaya. Over time the dance group developed into a dance studio in the West Surabaya area.
“From here, I believe that dancing can be used as an entrepreneur with a broader mind to open up business opportunities. And in my opinion, this opportunity must also be balanced with the spirit and skills possessed,” he said. [UNESA PR]
