Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya–The State University of Surabaya (UNESA) has again opened classes for foreign students who want to study at UNESA. There are dozens of foreign students who are interested in studying at UNESA this year. They took part in the interview selection for 2021 UNESA International Student Scholarship (UISS) applicants which was held online on Monday (12/7/2021).
On that occasion, present Prof. Dr. Bambang Yulianto, M.Pd as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs UNESA and all ranks of deputy deans for academic affairs within UNESA. The Head of the UNESA International Affairs Office, Asrori, S.S., M.Pd said that this year was the second year of the UNESA International Student Scholarship for foreign students. Last year there were about 13 foreign students studying at UNESA in the program. They come from Thailand and Timor Leste.
Furthermore, Asrori explained that this year UNESA will interview around 27 applicants from 14 countries. The number of enthusiasts increased sharply compared to the previous year. "This shows that our efforts to share this information are quite good and will continue to be improved in the future," he said.
Meanwhile, in his remarks, Bambang Yulianto encouraged all relevant ranks to remain enthusiastic in increasing the number of foreign students studying at UNESA. Internationalization programs must continue to be encouraged, including pursuing international publications and accreditation. To anticipate language barriers for foreign students during the program, UNESA already has many strategies through the important role of the UNESA Office of International Affairs team.
According to the FBS Professor, international classes are not necessarily held in English only. He gave an example, a number of universities abroad do not apply English for international classes. Instead, use the language of the country and foreign students gradually adjust to it. Between the use of English and Indonesian in the international class, according to him, a combination strategy or one that is adapted to the goals and needs in the field must be used.
To improve the standardization of studies at UNESA, the composition between foreign students and regular students also needs to be considered and both can provide benefits to each other and can synergize and network for a better future. "We hope that UNESA students can be motivated to have learning standards and develop themselves and are ready to synergize and compete at the international level," he said. "Foreign students can also learn a lot at UNESA and get to know Indonesia more closely, both in its diversity and unique culture," he concluded. (Hasna/zam)
