Unesa.ac.id, Surabaya-Cases of sexual harassment in the community are increasingly troubling. The latest and most shocking is the alleged sexual harassment by the school owner to his students at an educational institution, Batu City, East Java. Responding to the case, the UNESA Crisis Center Mitigation Unit (SMCC) immediately held a National Webinar on 'Against Sexual Harassment; Review Law, Psychology and Gender’ on (03/06/2021).
This National Webinar presents a series of speakers who are experts in their fields. There is Dr. Pudji Astuti, S.H., M.H. Head of the Unesa Legal Aid Institute, Sjafiatul Mardliyah, S.Sos., MA, Head of the Center for Gender and Child Studies Unesa, also present Commissioner Yasintha Ma'u, SH, M. Hum., Kanit IV Subdit IV Renakta Ditreskrimum East Java Police, and Riza Wahyuni, S.Psi., M.Si. Psychologist, Chair of the East Java Forensic Psychologist Association.
Unesa Chancellor Prof. Dr. H. Nurhasan, M.Kes in his speech said that sexual violence can happen to anyone. He said that according to the WHO sexual harassment often occurs in schools, colleges, workplaces and other places. "Therefore, this webinar is one of Unesa's ways to fight sexual harassment," said the man who is called Cak Hasan.
Dr. Pudji Astuti, S.H., M.H as the first speaker opened the material with exposure to the prevention of sexual harassment. He explained that sexual harassment is part of sexual violence. Sexual violence is behavior towards a person's sexuality or sexual organs without obtaining consent and having an element of coercion or threats.
He added that there are several ways to overcome sexual violence, including maintaining appearances, not trusting anyone completely, avoiding pornographic chats, self-control, not watching things that increase lust, and strengthening faith.
On that occasion, Kompol Yasintha Ma'u, S.H., M.Hum also delivered material on sexual violence in legal review. He said that most of the perpetrators of sexual violence were those who were mistreated or sexually abused as a child. Because they are not handled properly, they have the potential to do so in adulthood.
"In conducting an investigation, the purpose of the investigator is not only to imprison the perpetrator, but also to provide counseling or assistance and recovery of the victim and that must be completed thoroughly," he said.
On the same occasion, Sjafiatul Mardliyah, S.Sos., M.A. deliver material about the world of education against sexual harassment. He explained that the fact of sexual violence begins with the appearance of physical sights that can support the role of each actor and can provide an overview of the identity of an actor himself. Therefore, there must be a comprehensive and continuous anticipatory effort.
At the end of the session, Riza Wahyuni, S.Psi., M.Sc. Psychologist, giving presentation about trauma healing. He explained that in cases of abuse it is very important to heal the trauma from the experience of sexual violence. "Victims can potentially become perpetrators if there are problems that are not resolved properly," said Riza. He also gave some tips so that you can heal yourself from the traumatic experience, you can keep moving or doing activities, not locking yourself up, controlling your emotions or feelings, and taking care of your health.
